My RX-V992 is on the way out. It's time to shop for a replacement. I'm open to suggestions for a one box solution as I'm space challanged. The replacement can be no more than 6 1/2 inches tall as the rack is packed. I could re-locate my power conditioner which would free up a extra three inches if a pre-amp is required.

If you like the Yamaha, I'd stick with that brand.

How's it on it's way out? Send it to me if you replace it. I'll pay shipping.

Yamaha is good, and I have had no problems with my Denon. Certainly abused the amps enough to burn them out, but nothing. It keeps working. Probably the only 2 brands I'd buy these days for the price.

I currently have a different brand with similar specs, and the only thing I would want that your Yamaha (and my receiver) doesn't have is DTS decoding. But almost any current receiver will have that. Sorry, I don't have any specific recommendations.

Chip,
I just upgraded my RX-V1 to an RX-Z9 however neither would come even close to fitting in you rack with the height constriant. I picked up the Z9 as new C stock(dropped on the back) for just over a grand and it is awesome.

I have a yamaha RX-v795 and its great. it does have DTS.
the only next step up IMHO would be digital video switching. (HDMI) but that would be a huge leap in cost.

I'm going to sell my Outlaw 950 soon. It's not very tall.

I used to have an RX-V490 that I liked a lot. Then one day it just stopped outputing any audio. So I sold it "broken" to a friend for $80 (current ebay pricing was $400 minimum). When he received it, he said it worked fine and he's had it ever since without a single hiccup.

Man, I tried everything to make it work for me. I would slap all four sides of it. Plug it into different wall outlets. Try different sources, etc. Nothing would work.
And then I shipped it via UPS and now it works. Go figure.

I'm still using the Yamaha DSP-A1 (champagne with wooden side panels) which I got ages ago Smile

Still loving it. I might actually continue using it and get a cheap receiver with HDMI in and multichannel pre-outs, and connect the pre-outs to the multichannel inputs of the Yamaha.

Recently speaker 1 output dropped out so I rewired the theater to the 2 output. However sometimes when you turn it on, it reverts to 1 and you get no sound from the front left and right speakers. Other than that and the fact that it only has one optical and one coaxial digital input, I love it.

NAD NAD NAD RA RA RA!

Sounds like Chippers' got a stuck relay too... I've got a Sony that does that, and rumor has it some really nice older NAD integrated amps (two channel) do that also...

Chip, try jumping the relay in the Yahmie and see if its' happy.

Oh, and I have a set of Soundworks III cubes for Dr. Frankenchips' lab if you want them.

Sure, I'll scoop the cubes. This morning I gutted Frankie and am in the process of transfering everything over to his adopted sister in the back room so their pint-size cousin can go back into storage. Should be back on the cannon tonight.

Check out the Integra Amps, I have used tonnes of these on jobs over the last few years, they sound good and just don't seem to play up like others do e.g Yamaha, Nad, Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, etc. The humidity up here tends to cause things to fail prematurely, but the Intrgras just dont seem to play up at all. One of the other main reasons we use them is they are one of the few that have a serial port for integration to Crestron/Amx etc.

We use a lot of Denon and Marantz in our shop - RS-232 ports exist on models of both of these.

I have a RX-V1000 that's still churning along nicely - unfortunately, though, the RS-232 output has failed me. Input still works fine, though. Go figure.

You gotta love Ebay. And that was from an authorized dealer.

I have a denon avr 3801 and its cutting out, a lot of people get denon like myself and they sound great tbh, but the support after you get them from Denon sucks in Europe I am not sure whats its like in the US though.
