My projector sits on a stand about 5 feet tall in a storage room and projects through a cutout in the wall onto the screen on the opposite wall. The projector was running and I was making some minor adjustments in focus through the cutout in the wall when I accidentally dropped the remote down beside the projector stand. When I entered the storage room to retrieve the remote I tripped over a badly placed sewer pipe. The back of my sholder met the top of the projector stand and everything tumbled to the floor.
My wife came rushing downstairs to see me sitting beside the projector. She said she thought I was going to cry.
The projector landed hard on the top of blue tube. All the tubes snaped off at the neck card cage and the blue tubes bellows were punctured dumping half of the glycol into the projector.

Eww,
I think saving the electronics would at least be tricky. Glycol is corrosive ya know.
From the sounds of it though you didn't break any arms or legs which is always good. (Ever see one of those skateboarder videos where they fall off and get up and their arm is bent in an unusual way, ekk.. sounds like something that could have happen-ed.)

Yikes! I've had two tubes damaged like that in shipping, depite great packing.
You should still be able to save most of the boards in the set I'd think. Flush any board thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and test them in an 8500 with toasted tubes.

So there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.
I spoke with my insurance company and it looks like all those crazy high insurance premiums that I've been paying for all of these years may actually pay off. It appears that my policy covers accidental damage to the contents of my home. I will be required to pay my $500 deductable and I will loose my claims free status discount (10%) for the next three years.
Now I need to find a local shop that will assess the damage and provide a repair quote for the insurance company.

You must have really big shoulders to be able to dislodge a beast like a 9500LC from a table/stand...!
Good news on the insurance - I never would have thought of going that way. The one interesting thing with insurance company's when they replace CRT projectors is that they usually seem to (from what I've read) replace it with a new similar unit... meaning that you may get a brand new one from VDC? Or maybe a new G90 if there's still any left around from FH Video?

They didn't get into to many details. I mentioned that I would be away on vacation for a couple of weeks starting later this week, they then said to have a good vacation and when I get back to give them a call if I still want to make a claim. They said that the policy states that if a significant loss occurs due to accidental damage, the item will be repaired or if not repairable it will be replaced with an equivalent unit. The projector would need to be deemed "not repairable" for it to be replaced.
The insurance company was very understanding of the situation and said that the policy is there to limit significant loss and that they would do their best to ensure I was happy with the end result.
I feel much better after my discussion with them but it's still a shame to see those minty tubes in their current condition.

I only saw this mentioned once, but about a forum member from New Zealand. He also had to use the insurance, but they could not find him a suitable CRT projector so they gave him a Sony Ruby instead  Adding insult to injury

210 lb of solid muscle 8)
Apparently a 187 lb projector on top of an unweighted stand that isn't bolted down is a little top heavy. My shoulder hit the stand near the top and it was all down hill from there.
I see some serious concrete anchors in my future. That projector stand is not going to move at all next time I go into it with my shoulder.

Your insurance is there EXACTLY for this kind of thing.
You do NOT want an assessment of "repairable", because your exact projector is still being manufactured by VDC.
If it is deemed NOT repairable, the insurance company cannot argue with an exact replacement; get ready to receive your brand new VDC 9500LC.
Also, if you demand repair to the condition it was before the accident(ie. brand new tubes, brand new replacement boards for the glycol damage/exposure, etc.) it will cost MORE to repair it than to replace it. Have you ever checked the cost of actual, brand new replacement parts for these things ?
I had a similar experience, my first projector, a Sony 1020(video only) that I bought at a Salvation Army yard sale for $125. WITH an electric screen, went out during a thunderstorm. The Sony tech who looked at it said it was due to lightning, and was unrepairable. The insurance company gave me the cost of a Sony D50 ($11,500. at the time) because that was the nearest projector Sony made at the time(about 9 years ago...).
I told my insurance broker I had gotten it from a yard sale, etc., he said it made no difference since I had "replacement cost" insurance; said it didn't matter what it COST, only what it cost to REPLACE it...
