I'm looking for a way to mount my left surround speaker. It needs to drop down from the soffit about three ft. It weighs about 12 lbs. and has two mounting holes on the rear and centered. Hers' pics of the spkr and where it will be dropped from.

Offhand I'd say use a plumber's flange and Redi Rod. Cover with PVC conduit and paint to suit.

I'd build a square column to hide that speaker plus the support post and put the surround speaker behind acoustically transparent fabric.
Make the column look like it's supposed to be there.... the same width as the soffit, if necessary.
I wouldn't want a speaker hanging down 3'... that's head knocking height... not good for the speaker nor the noggin'.
The other minimalist option would be to put the surround speaker up in the soffit... is it just a duct behind there?

I agree with Clarence. Box in the lolly pole and put the surround in it. Just be sure you line up the surround on the other side with it. Do you have a floor plan drawing of your HT? It looks like an interesting configuration.

I thought about the column idea, but the pole and where I want the surround to go are too far apart. The column would be bigger, interfering with the pool table (not that it is use as much as the HT  ). I do like Curt's idea of the plumbers flange (thanks, again). I made a quick crude drawing of my HT. Any suggestions are welcome 
The soffit is filled with ducting and some water lines.

There is no need to worry about having the speaker that low. Just pitchit down a bit at the listening area and box out a little bit around the ductwork and you can make it look finished and use clarence idea to conceal.

Be sure you hit the studs / joists / framing with the screws into the flange. Else, you could use dry wall anchors or toggle bolts. Check the weight ratings to figure out the right ones.

Thanks for the link! I've been looking for something like that. I had the guys put in a 2x6 for whatever I was going to use, the flange is leading the list right now. I'm just trying to figure out how to attach the speaker to the drop rod.

I would build an "L" shaped wall with the pole at the top of the "L" and a short length of wall facing the theater-install the speaker in or on the wall and use the space on the inside of the "L' for a counter and shelf area (popcorn,bar,fridge,electronics,etc)
out of sight of the seating area,but accessible for both theater and pool table area
