anyone here play with the slingbox toys? they let you control an AV source via a remote compute and broadcast that AV source to the remote computer. great if you want to watch TV/dvd/laserdisc/vcr at the office.
i got given a couple and i'm looking at them as a solution looking for a problem.

They are very nice units actually, I have used them for a few of my customers who are from over in the UK. They use the sling boxes to watch the UK broadcast while over here at their winter homes.

A friend bought one to watch stuff at the office. I thought it was so cool i ran out to buy one.
Other than traveling, I'm not really sure what i'd do with it.
It can only do 480i.
I'd be really glad for this if i were traveling in India again. Or even france.(tv was better in india...)

yeah, i don't watch at the office (not enough room for a PJ like Eddie ) and my hip-wart phone isn't supported by the sling software.
but it just seems odd. i would have to get another vcr/dvd/tuner thingy seperate from my system as the slingbox has L/R/V inputs, but no outputs. so unless my source has two sets of outs, i've dedicated that source it to the slingbox.
if it does have two outputs, joe commuter would hardly want to compete with someone at home for channel control.
the only problems i can see this solution solving is
watching the game when away from home (keep up on scores)
watching my local shows when traveling (hmmm, BC news at 5am)
setting the DVR/VCR to record a show if i'm running late or forget to program it in
i'm sure that there is a niche somewhere.
