Here's part 2. I have left out astig and focusing and signal entry, I found the pictures AFTER I wrote the geometry writeup, so here's the geometry writeup, and I'll go in tomorrow and will insert what I missed at the beginning of this...

Oh?!?!??! So now it (PJ) is damaged and possibly infected with HIV virus - I sense a mark-down coming in the next newsletter.

WHat, the projectors are marked down as they might have the HIV, or I don't have long to live so I'm blowing them out?

Some corrections:
- "Scheimpflug bolts" do not need to be loosened to adjust the Scheimpflug tabs, just the lens mounting bolts
- Phase is not the same as line distortion
- When you create a new input, picking default does not make the new input the default, it calls data from the default settings to create the new input.
I always use Temporary for a new res (coz Doug so), and often use Entry Number to copy one res to another (say if I'm creating a 72hz res when I already have created the very close 75hz res). But you wouldn't copy a 33khz signal to a 90khz one - they need to be close.
If I know what the default is I may use that. But the default settings are usually the factory ones, and are done at the factory for a 100" 4:3 screen - nothing like what we tend to use.

| You wrote: | | Additional disclaimer: This article assumes that the yoke, focus yoke and astig magnets are set accurately in your set. Yoke adjustments and astig adjustments are considered advanced procedures, and unless someone has been tinkering in your set, these do normally not need adjusting. |
What if that's not the case, is there a way to tell? Is it reasonable to say "if adjustment A doesn't work, then your astig magnets may be set incorrectly" or is it more complicated? It's not that you have to demonstrate the advanced procedures, but it might be helpful to know the warning signs when you're troubleshooting.

THe reason I left it out is that if you need the article, you're a newbie (no offense) that shouldn't be messing with the internal magnets in the first place.
It's pretty rare that I get a projector in where someone has messed up the magnetics... unless you're a newbie who ends up putting fingers where they shouldn't. (also indicated by the HV burn marks and the multiple Band Aids on the fingers..<grin>. Projectors that I get in surplus that have had tube changes in the past usually have been done by techs that know what they are doing.
But good point. I'll make a note about the silicone that seals the astig magnets. I'll include a pix of the factory seals...
I just don't want the emails to come in: " The set seemed pretty good, I read your article, messed with the astig magnets and now it's really effed up'... If you don't tell people where they are in the first place, there's less chance of them messing with them in the first place.

Curt,
The changes I would make Mark has addressed already. The images of the dot and H patterns dont show up to well. Anything you can do about that? Doug

OK, thanks. I'll put in to use the 'temporary' entry.

Curt, how much of this would be relevant to setting up a PG XTRA?
Thanks,
ray

A lot of it.
Tomorrow I'll work on the convergence section. There's lots of similarities between the PG and XG setup, just skip over the part that's not relevant.
But hey, if you're asking, you're either already an expert, or are doing the 'guy' thing of 'instructions? I don't need to stinking instructions' <grin>

I've got a 9Xtra. I'm planning on using this doc to set it up. I'll mark up the difference and send them back to Curt. That way it could do double duty. As long as Curt gets the XG version finished.

Phase is different on an Xtra, as is Raster Centering.
