Here's what this site says about the Barco 1200:

The Barco 9” sets started with the Graphics 1200. This set came out in 1993 and was in production until about 1995. This set used the same Sony tubes as the Sony 1292 and was razor sharp. The Sony tubes are not rebuildable however failure of this tube is rare. The Barco 1200 was a reliable chassis, and was replaced by the 1609 and 1209 sometime in 1995 or so.

Everyone on AVS seems to think 09MX tubes won't work in a 1292, that the 1292 requires 09MFX tubes.

Who's right?

Phil,

According to what I've been told in the past, the tubes are identical and you can put 1200 tubes in a 1292 without mod.

Thanks guys! I figure as many PJs as Curt has worked on, he's probably tried it at some point. I'd be nice to know for sure, and if they will work, if any neck board mods are required.

I'm not trying to be a smartass about paying. I will gladly pay for the info.

Mack1,

That is an excellent idea! I just sent Graham a PM.

I think I've smarted off to Curt one too many times. It appears he's not willing to help me even for money at this point. Who would have ever dreamed Curt would refuse to do ANYTHING that involved money. Mr. Green

I don't think I've ever harassed Graham, so maybe he'll be willing to help. And in the unfortunate event that I have smarted off to Graham, hopefully he's got a little thicker skin than Curt and will help me anyway. Mr. Green

Thats done it. You penetrated my thick skin as well Sad LMFAO

The answer is I am not sure.

I have used 09MFX2 to replace MFX3's

I did buy some tubes sight unseen from the USA about 2 years ago. I thought they where 09MX's But they where no good as they had short necks and where for ES focus machines.

The front bell housing etc was identical to MFX3's

Send me some photos with a ruler along side so i can guage the size and I will see how they measure up to MFX3's

Thanks for responding Graham!

Here's a photo. It still has Barco 1200 LC hardware and electronics installed. My guess is it would be 42-44cm long if the the LC assembly was removed.

From the centre of the HV cap to the end of the plastic connector is exactly 14.5 inches.

If they measure the same I recon you can use em.

You need to take some shots in the neck of the tube so I can see the connections. say with the HV connector upwards. I need to see what pins connect where. then we will have a definitive answer.

"Reckon" Graham.
"Recon" is US military speak for "taking a look"...well, I think it is, Ron could probably sort me out there.

The tube is certainly not the short ES focus version.

Is reckon a word used in Ausie land? In the US, it's a slang word common in the South. Not really used in the rest of the states.

Graham, I'll get you some more pics this evening. Thanks again!

It's not slang, it's a real word.

It is pronounced diferent in the south.
Recon basically means

"You Recon"="Do you think so?"

Graham,

It is indeed about 14.5", so that's a good start.

Ok, I finally got time to take some pics. Note that 2 pins are clipped on the plug in photo #4. Hopefully that won't be a problem. Tell me if you need something else.

Thanks Cliff! I took those with my ebay setup, which has 3 studio strobes bouncing off the ceiling. It works well for shooting ebay stuff and this type of thing. I didn't have my exposure or distance right, and I actually could have done a better job. But for this it wasn't worth the trouble of taking them over again.

I have an old, low res (by today's standards) digital camera. Like they say, it's all about the lighting!
