OK I finaly started the HT build last night. Had a friend over that doesn't mind working on ladders. He taped the celing off for me. Tomorow I'll prime and Monday I'll paint the first base coat. Then by Wednesday I should be ready to do the top FLAT black coat. Yep it's a 6 coat affair. I'm trying for the bat cave. Preferably without the bat this time. Thumbs Up

Here's the paints I decided on.

1./ Benjamin Moore Fresh Start Primer #23 00 (tinted lite grey )

2./Benjamin Moore Collection FISRT COAT Color Foundation Deep Base. Interior Acrylic Laytex Enamal
# 216 04 (tinted medium grey)

3./ Benjamin Moore Collection FLAT Black 215 80 Interior Acrylic Laytex
very thick. He did a test on a glossy card at the store and one coat came close to covering but there was a little light shinning through.

The room is 11.6 x 18 feet with 9 foot celings. The celings are 50 year old textured plaster on top of steel celing joists. No way am I going to celing mount the PJ. That's ok I have a cart.

The cart will be at the back of the room behind the seats. The projector will have it's back tilted up for 0 deg projection angle. The screen will fall somewhere between 9-10 feet wide. Depending on how far forward the PJ cart needs to be to clear the balcony door.

I'll post some before and after pics as soon as my Camera charges.

It's about time. I've wanted to do this for almost 10 years. Rolling Eyes

OK Here's the paints I selected. Just in case someone else whats to do this. I got them at Rona in Toronto.

Rock on buddy! BTW...great pix even tho they were on the floor it seems.

I'm still chipping away at mine. I finally got some goofy ducktwork moved last week and yesterday I finished installing black fire treated sheets to the rest of one part of the ceiling. I still have the worst part of the room to go that has ALOT of wires and pipes. I'm still not sure how I'm going to hang this material and make it taut like the other side.

Thanks for the encouragement. You got something against the floor? There's an old saying. " You can't fall further than the floor" Especialy after a night of heavy drinking. Very Happy

Well I found out one thing. As you probably know Greg. Old injuries come back to haunt you when you have your body in weird positions. Man my neck hurts right down to my finger tips. LOL No not that I was painting and I have pictures to prove it.

Only 5 coats to go. Smile

Ohh Thank God... I am a Sherwin Williams man ... but benji is much much better stuff than that box store junk...

De fuzz your roller cover real good before you start ... And make sure to run a putty knife down your tape to make sure that the paint won't bleed under...

You should be real happy with that...

Actualy this IS from a box store. Rona is the (smaller) Canadian equivilant to home depot. And now that I think of it they bought the Building Box stores 2 years ago lol.

But yes. This seems like a good quality paint. Lots of solids and one coat of primer pretty much covered. But I'll do the 2nd coat just in case. I got it I might as well use it.

built a frame for the Wilsonart screen
it's now laying flat with heavy devices on the end to make it flat....

Cats like it too....o_O
hope they won't sit on it too much ..lol

still waiting for my Bosch-RexRoth parts to complete the eqipment rack....
and the C-Elements from VDC...

got some crazy sponging on those walls:thumbsup:
and that ceiling would have taken ages to 'swirl' like that...never seen that before..... will be interesting to see how the texture behaves with a flat paint finish.

The walls were painted by an artist back in 1984. The yellow paint is Laytex and the patern is oil based Gold. He applied with a feather duster. It was fasinating to watch him do it when I was a kid.

The celing was done back in 1957 - 1958 or so. That's how all the celings in this building were done. I like it. I can't wait to see how the texture turns out with the flat black either. Just one coat of primer makes the place feel so different. Wow.

Well there has been the odd car and old truck that has been painted with a roller. lol

Yes everything get sprayed. I'd love to have done that here but too much overspray. I would have had to tape everything as you say. Even with a HVLP gun.

The presure of the spray makes the drop sheets blow around and the fine spray settles on everything.

Ok second coat of primer on. Man it is hard to put on grey ontop of greay at night with no lights directly in the room. I'll make sure I have some for the next two coats.

Add a blop of black to your primer to make it darker, so you can see where the 2nd coat is.

I love being interupted when I'm working. Ok not really but she was trying to sell me digital cable crap upgrade. I listened to her for 15 minutes at the door and after I closed the door I realized. Well lets say I hope my shirt was covering my fly. LOL

By the way. The paint (color foundation deep base ) is thinner than the primer. There's probably a reason for this but I wish it were thicker then my eyeballs wound't have been painted by spatter. Shocked
