Hi everyone, I recently bought a barco cine 7 projector and it seems to have a couple of issues.

1) the raster extends horizontally past the edges of the visible tube so I'm worried this will be hitting the non cooled part of the tube. I have reduced the horizontal size all the way down to zero and the internal grid pattern does reduce in size, but the grid still over scans on both sides horizontally. Vertical size is fine, I can get the whole grid inside the tube face no problem.

2) the image seems unstable, the grid judders slightly on all three CRTs. I'm guessing this is a filter cap issue so will check all the caps but not sure if this is a problem anyone else has encountered before.

3) the brightness of the red CRT seems to reduce occasionally, I can get it nice and bright again by adjusting settings so still works, just seems to have a mind of it's own

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've checked for error codes and there are none flagged.

For (1) you are correct: You need to set up the projector correctly so that none of the active image extends past the tube surface on to the edge. Everything you need is on the main site. One example: https://www.curtpalme.com/TubeRasterSetup.shtm

Can't help with the other two. They are not normal behaviour for a working projector, but expected more and more given the age of any CRT projector these days.

Good luck!

Kal

Thanks for the reply, I followed the installation manual and also checked the guides on the main website but I just can't reduce the horizontal size of the raster enough for some reason. I'm suspecting that it's a fault with the projector (given it seems to have other faults too) but will double check the guides and manual again.

Not sure about the Cine 7 as it may have been different and I've never worked on one, but most Barcos have raster width coils that can be adjusted mechanically if you can't get the width small enough through the electronic controls.

More in my guide here: https://www.curtpalme.com/Barco_Setup_Quick_Reference_Guide.shtm

Cheers,

Kal

Ah brilliant, thanks a lot for your help, I'll check to see if I can locate mechanical controls. Great website by the way, extremely helpful thanks 👍🏻

There should be a master width control, on the power supply. THe 708 service manual is on the website for download. It's marked P8, a small trimpot, in that service manual. I think the Cine 7 is similar or identical.

Yeah I found the master width control pot, but also found some burn marks on the PCB next to a couple of resistors so have a fault somewhere in the power supply which I need to try and trace down. Great news there's a service manual for the 708 as I couldn't find one for the cine 7 anywhere so hopefully that will be a big help
