I switched from my Barco stack to digital about 8 years ago. The first two projectors were found at the recycler down the street. 1080p both of them, the second Epson was better than the first.. whatever it was.
Then I found a JVC 4K used with 1000 hours on it for $1500 CDN/$1100 US from a buddy. I haven't switched to 4K yet, no real need to, but that's more than enough for me.
I am still using the same 10' wide microperf screen, with 3 X 12" 2 way LCR behind it, and two 2 x 15" woofer cabs on either side of the screen, also behind the wall we built to hold the screen. I have an 86" in the bedroom that rarely gets used. It's still projection for me!

Best thing about it is NO SPY WARE.
All the 'Smart' TV's snapshot what you do, collect screenshots and as much data as possible so.manufactures can sell it to Data brokers.
Including things plugged I to the HDMI ports. If you happen to be watching a family vacation video. They see that too.
You can get the big TV and never connect it to the Internet I guess. Flip 'em the bird.
You could run an external.TB box to run Apps.if.thats what floats yer boat and avoid the spying.
