I have been setting up my Sony G90 recently and now that I have a PC with a GPU I can output custom resolutions and projectors to the projector. I want to start using 72hz progressive and 96hz interlaced for movies.

I tried using CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) at 1920x1080p at 72hz and just used "Automatic HDTV Timing" and that resulted in a raster going off to the side of the tube and not being able to correct that with the centering controls, so I quickly reverted back to 60hz. How should I set my output settings to avoid this?

These are the resolutions I am most interested in.

Progressive Scan
1920x1080p 72hz (71.928hz)
1920x817p 72hz
1920x1080p 100hz/120hz

Interlaced
1920x1080i 96hz
1920x817i 96hz
1920x1080i 100hz/120hz

Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to risk damaging the tubes or CRT projector itself by using trial and error testing different resolutions. An online bandwidth calculator says that 1080p 60hz is 186.6Mhz while 816i 96hz is only 113Mhz. I'm hoping that will give a noticeable increase in sharpness.

Thanks for all help and advice!

Back in the day I ran PowerStrip software on my HTPC for custom timings. You could set the porch settings, over scan and a whole host of others I never bothered with. Worked well with my G70 CRT.

There may something more up to date.

I know about PowerStrip, I can already output custom porch settings, however I don't know what values I should select.

I would really like to know the timing settings for 1920x817p 72hz and 1920x817i 96hz.

I made a quick search for G90 and G70 Powerstrip timing files. Entechtaiwan had a users forum where I found the timing file I started with then modified. I can't find the site.

Attached are the PowerStrip "shortcuts" I played with, can't remember which one ended up as my primary.

Good luck
