Hi members,

Last month my Barco 1209/sE suddenly died with EHT red led on.
After changing the (every day more difficult to find) usual parts - EHT - QUADRUPLER - SPLITTER, finally the splitter was the culprit.

But the new splitter had a strange behaviour, a lot of oscillation and bad focus. The focus worse over the time and after half an hour the set shut down.
After cooling I tried to diagnose the splitter with the 34,7v voltage test but with the voltage growing until 28v I heard a spark and the EHT has gone in protection mode (red led).

Sure that the splitter have some problems (a lot of post in this forum pointed out the same symptoms) I found another one, (even more difficult).
The EHT was still in protection and looking the tubes neck during start up I noticed that the green one make a blue lamp and then stop while the other two make the normal orange glow.
Changed the HT leads but the green make the same thing.
Disconnecting the green HT lead and the PJ runs normally without green, no oscillation and good focus.

This time the splitter seems OK but I think to have shorted my perfect PT22-30 green tube Sad( cry !! (attached)
Impossible to find another one in this shape !

Now the too late questions.
Is it possible to shorten the tube making the splitter voltage test ?
What happen really inside when the tube shorten ?
Is it possible to repair ?

Thanks,
Alberto

Yes, then the tube is shorted. If you didn't connect that thin red wire correctly, or if the splitter had an internal fault in it, causing the HV to go well above the needed 34Kv, then yes, the tube will have shorted. You'll need a new tube.

Check "CRT home theater club" Facebook group. 6+ months ago someone posted they bought a few of those p22 tubes and never used them and wanted to sell. It sounded like he would sell them for a few hundred or less. Those are for fast phosphor for 3d right?

Regarding issues you have read this document right? http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/BarcoServiceBulletin_R762716_New_EHT.pdf

it sounds like a mismatch of different version of the HV components that the service write up addresses.

Hi virusc, thanks for your hint, I wrote on the fb group.

Regarding the service bulletin... I know it.
But in my case is not completely true the "oscillation" issue.
I used an old quadrupler R761743 from BG800 for a long time without oscillations.
This time the oscillation was made by a new type splitter R762718 that was obviously defect.
Tried another one with the same code and no oscillations at all, but in the mean time I shorted the green.

Thanks,
Alberto
