|

My 909 nightmare continues unabated
Short version: had to reinstall from scratch to get the focus sharper. Have finally figured out that the reason the raster centering has proven so tricky for me, is that the rasters are set too big, and actually extend off the edge of the tube face. This is problematic, not just because it makes it very hard to center the raters, but also because any subsequent H-Phase shift risks sending the image where it shouldn’t go.
Is there some sort of internal adjustment in the 909 for altering the size of the rasters, and assuming so, is it just one control that alters the size for all three, or are there three separate controls? If three controls, then how to you ensure that the rasters end up a uniform size?
Thanks Again

Check the below link go to "Positioning of Raster Using Mechanical Controls"

I’m guessing this is beyond my ability. Does anyone know of someone in the UK who still does this type of work?

Why do you think your rasters are set too big? What video signal are you inputing and what are your size settings at?
With the 909 there are no mechanical L-R raster positioning controls that I am aware of. Instead it's menu driven with the coarse\fine raster centering options.

The rasters are so big that I that cannot see their edges unless I shift them all the way to one side or the other. This makes it impossible to set the raster so that it doesn’t encroach on the faceplate let alone the forbidden zone, which in turn makes it tricky to figure out whether the projected image is touching the forbidden zone. It also means that if I expand the width of the image or adjust the H-phase there’s a danger that the image will be scanned onto the forbidden zone or that it’s beam will strike the face plate. This also makes centering really hard to accomplish since there’s no real reference point.

This sounds like you are running the guided projector setup routine where you input the distance in the menu, then go through the various stages and it prompts you to center the rasters. If so - yes, I know what you mean. I didn't really get that either as the raster does go way beyond both the left and right sides of the image. It would be 2 years since I've even been through that, but from memory at the time I concluded that it didn't really matter what you did during that setup routine for the raster centering as you wound up setting the values properly to actual real signal\program material later anyway. Getting the projector properly leveled, square to the screen and at the correct height were the most important points.
It would be great if you could do a 49|49 setup on all the rasters and have them centered nicely, but I don't think that's possible.

To setup any projector you have to get the mechanical elements right before you do anything else.
