I have 2 lumagen scalers at home.
Up until now I have been using the HDQ as a scaler and enjoy the advantage of D/A converter that it has.
The disadvantage of the HDQ are
1. Can except up to 1080p 24Hz (i need 60Hz)
2. Limited gamma corrections.
therefor. Im thinking of changing to the other lumagen that I have (Radiance XE 3D).
I will need D/A converter
Does the simple and cheap converter do the job?

The item pictured has a male DB-15 plug that usualy associates with devices with VGA INPUT not output, so I'd say this one is a VGA->HDMI converter and not a HDMI->VGA what you'd really need

I would stay away from very cheap ones as that kind of negates the point of using a good quality scaler if you're following it up with the cheapest D -> A converter. Moome makes some good quality ones for CRT projectors and may have other solutions too (You can email him at moome@curtpalme.com).

i used to have a moome card (early models) connected to my Barco 1209s
what i didn't like about it. is that every time i load a movie the signal in the projector was gone for 2 seconds and returned.
I am concerned that this may damage the projector in long run.
the benefit of lumagen is that the projector all the time gets same signal and no jumping to off sink.
Does this cheap converter will decreases the picture quality significantly?

I've had the white chinese HDMI converter, in its stock form it did not properly resolve 800x600 in bandwidth, but it was able to handle 1080P72Hz signal, though it was specified only for 1080P 60Hz.
After removing the output filters on the RGB lines then the bandwith increased a lot, so much it could properly resolve the 1080P 72Hz (with some inherent peaking), but the output is not very strong either. I think this is probably also based on the chinese EP94Z1E converter chip.
