Does anyone know if there is actually any difference between these two boards?

The R7625189 is (according to documentation) from an 812 but I have unknowingly been using it in my 809 as it looks identical to the R762518.

The 7th digit is usually some minor mod or revision to first 6 digits of the board number. So a 762106 power supply is an older version of a 7621065, but they will interchange. Not sure in your case what the mod is, but yes, it should work fine.

They seem to use even the same PCB number, so they should be damn close...

Yep, you are ok. If additional digit is 5,7 or 9, it means fully compatible. From 1 till 4 not compatible.
