TV/Projector: All of them!

Posted: Wed Jan 10, 2018 3:11 pm    Post subject: VGA to HDMI generic adapters- do they work?

Gents, I have a tiny church that needs the addition of an additional television. The existing TVs are a few years old, and they run a VGA output laptop into a Monoprice VGA distro amp, and then out to the TVs. They DO NOT have the budget to switch to HDMI, I've asked.

So finding a 70" TV with a VGA input is almost impossible. Philips still makes one in their commercial lineup, but the price might put us out of the competition.

So the alternative is to use a generic VGA to HDMI converter. Since everything is Powerpoint, there's no HDCP to worry about, ever.

I'll change the Monoprice 3 way distro amp to an Extron 4 way, then run the VGA to HDMI adapter, into a CAT5 Tx/Rx extender, as the run is about 60'.

Do the generic converters work that I can find on eBay? Has anyone tried them before? I haven't, and want to make sure there's a fair chance of this working before I spring on this.

Thanks!

Curt, check your tittle. You have it backwards. You mean VGA to HDMI.

Check this one out: https://www.amazon.ca/Adapter-Converter-Desktop-Projector-Monitor/product-reviews/B00KXTXPIC/ref=dpx_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1&tag=curtpalmecrtp-20

What about a nice Extron unit? https://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=rgbhdmi300
Price is about $50 on Ebay and this would probably be nice and reliable in the long term. And it's got the usual VGA image adjustment up\down\left\right as well!

Groovy, post corrected, and yes, a used Extron would be the way to go.
Cheers!

Just remember to change the caps in the power supply before installing. Lately I've had 4 extron boxes die from bad caps.
