Naaaah you say

Au contrere!

My preamp started blowing fuses two weeks ago, completely unexpected but hey, it's twenty years old, an Audio Research Line Stage 3.

Audio Research wants five weeks and $400 to fix it. That is not fun.

I pop the cover and find some gummy stuff on the main board, and a charred crater in between some 1N4006 rectifier diodes. I thought some pcb foil had burned up. But there is no indication on the schematic that those points were tied together with foil. I send the schematics and some blurry pics to Curt and he says "just clean the board and pop in a new fuse, it should work."

I scrub the board with alcohol and let it dry an hour. Don't need a fire when I plug it in!

And the damned thing works!!!!!!!

Don't let your cat sleep on the preamp, she is prone to drool a little.......

I doubt it's drool , Cat's urinate on everything in a house, and their urine is highly corrosive.
