I've got an oddball here. A Marquee that occasionally loses the ability to display all text generated within it.
The video image is still there, but in place of generated text I get long thin horizontal lines displayed at various points on the screen. The patterns are static.
When it happens I think I'm hearing a very faint click.
The problem disappears if the projector is turned off and left to sit for a while, OR if you press the CLM reset button while the projector is running.
But the problem will eventually reappear.
Isn't the internal character generator video inserted via a circuit running through a relay on the VIM?
The next time it happens I'll also check and see if the test patterns disappear or not. I forgot to check.

Nice thought but the problem is the same no matter which CLM I put in. I have several spares.
I'm thinking that there's an internal video switch on the VIM. VIM swap is next on the list.

Uh oh
Possibly the chip on the backplane.

If so, that's not so bad because this is on my test unit, which is in the garage, on a cart, and I have a spare backplane. And the unit has no case or covers on it so it doesn't take more than a few minutes to get to ANYTHING in it. Changing the backplane would thus not be as much work as you might imagine.
But, more likely, I'd just swap to another spare unbuilt chassis and deal with it later.

Okay
If swapping CLM and VIM don't fix it, then the backplane becomes suspect.

Hi Chris,
Did you managed to find the culprit that causes you to lose all text? It seems that I have the same problem with my 9518 Marquee. It's intermittent issue on my projector.

I have not yet found the source of that particular problem but I have not been putting my attention into that particular projector lately, either.
The next time it happens I'm taking a picture of the result and sending it to VDC's top tech guy and maybe he knows what it is.
