Now if you had two parts, one NOS and one being used, would the NOS last much longer? I know caps are the main issue, and heat and loading will degrade all the parts, but how fast will caps fail from just old age? I have some old radios, tube and transistor that are sixty plus years old and still working on original parts, what is the deal there?

Not an issue with transistors or resistors. Those fail due to excessive current and heat. Sitting on a shelf, they'll be fine.

Actually, though it's a very slow process, semiconductors can fail just sitting on the shelf due to the process of diffusion of the N and P dopants thru the silicon substrate. This happens more rapidly at higher temperatures.

Enough!
CM claims to be a humble technician.
Only an engineer would know this stuff.
So fess up! LOL

What are we talking, years or decades for semiconductors.

Decades, unless you run the chips very hot. Like, hot enough to lose your fingerprints if you touch them.
