TV/Projector: Sony G70q CRT projector

Hello I'm glad to be back on this forum, it has been almost 6 years since I sold my VPH-1251.
Anyway I have just purchased a Sony G70 and I am going to do a custom install in our home.
My plans are to mount it to the ceiling but have it remotely drop down out of the roof and into position when we want to use it.
Has anyone done a mount like this? Also is it wise to have a CRT retractable?
I was thinking about welding up a custom cradle on runners that is controlled by remote electric actuators.
Any ideas or opinions on my mad plan?
Graeme.

Given that even small errors in repositioning the projector will give small errors in convergence, geometry, and focus, I would not recommend a retractable mount. The more solid your mount, the better.
Plus, do you know what a retractable mount for something as big and heavy as a G70 is going to cost you? If you can even find such a thing? I think it's practically a custom engineering project.
A G70 should go into a dedicated home theatre anyway. In such an installation there'd never be any need to hide the PJ.

Guys
Draper and some others built such mounts years ago. Very heavy, bulky, ugly. 300 pounds of steel. It would have to mount in the floor of the space above the theater, effectively killing the use of another room. If that is an attic then you would have concerns about temperature swings and roof leaks.
These things used to show up on Ebay but I have not seen one in years.

I have been thinking maybe a compromise. Solid mount into the ceiling so the majority of the projector is in the roof but the lenses and outer case are exposed. Leaving about 300mm protruding out of the ceiling.
I too am concerned about movement.

What Tim said. They are called scissor lifts, work well (with digital and CRT), but are huge and ugly for sure.

This is my favorite TK theater and it used such a lift. Honestly this drop down looks ugly; it's the only blemish on a remarkable theater. You'd be better of building an ornate hush box if the aesthetics are your concern. Like CJ and Tim said; too many problems to make it worth the time and money.

Damn
That is fugly.
Much better to have a tiered ceiling, no one could tell where the projector was.

It sure is ugly but when its in the drop down position the lights will generally be out and the room dark so its ugly nature is concealed. When the light are on it is retracted forming part of the ceiling so again it is concealed but yes I see all the geometry issues of moving any CRT projector. The end result would have to be a compromise for the sake of hiding your pride and joy.
