So I've decided to make another thread about the G70 as it pertains to a specific issue I'm having. See pictures below:

I've noticed that when setting up my Sony G70, if I turn the brightness up on the projector past 35, I have a "drop shadow" effect on the left side of the tube. No idea what's causing it. Here's a picture:

This happens with AGB on or off - doesn't matter. Now I have two projectors. Between the two, I have five new-style neckboards with serial 1-662-829-21, and one old-style neckboard with serial 1-662-829-11.

I have tested all new-style neckboards except for one, and all of them display this behavior. Meanwhile, the old-style neckboard does NOT exhibit this behavior, and tracks brightness correctly with no visual drop-shadow.

I have also replaced the B-board with no change in output. So I have to wonder - this can't all be faulty neckboards, can it? I don't think it is. Unfortunately, the parts projector has a PA board failure so I cannot turn it on to verify that it outputs correctly. What could be causing this? I've posted a WTB on the for sale forum for old-style neckboards, but is there something else that I can do to fix this? Does something in my set need to be calibrated?

For reference - both projectors have the 1.10 software, so the G2 levels cannot be adjusted. But I don't think the G2 is the culprit here (in any case - would changing the CPU boards actually help? It could certainly help me see how many hours my newer tubes have on them! Very Happy).

I'm sorry if I'm cluttering the forum. Responses on my other G70 thread have seemed to slow down a bit and I'm a little anxious to finally get this thing setup. So if someone can help out, that would be fantastic. Thanks!

And thanks to everyone who's helped me out so far. After I nail this issue to the wall, we'll be ready for prime time. Very Happy

sorry, there was something a long, looonnng time ago about mixing the old/new VNB's on the G70 but I can't remember what it pertained to or who posted it.
Probably Terry (forum name Chuchuf )

Sounds like your easiest course of action is to get 2 new old style C blocks

Yes! Sorry for not updating this. I've ordered an old-style VNB from Curt and will try it out once it arrives. I'm hoping that it fixes the problem with the other tube I put on it and if it does, I'll be ordering another one and most likely will sell off the stock that I do have, since my projector can't use them.

Both "new" old-style boards are in, and now the problem is GONE! We are now moving forward in our installation of this big beast. The best is yet to come!
