Title says it! I can get to every display menu/item but regardless of settings or source there is no sound from any output. Tried simple analog sound sources (cd, tuner etc.) tried CD direct. Tried factory reset. Got service manual and went through diagnostic, no errors showing, No sound at headphones or pre out. Manual says replace audio assy.

Question is - is there a known component repair that can be done on that board without a wholesale board swap? Not worth the cost to me if that is the only solution. I have the tools/skills to test & replace components though, unless it's like a 60 pin IC or similar. Just need the guidance as to what is the source component problem, if known. Thanks!

Sounds like the speaker protect relay isn't kicking in. See if you can find the schematic online and troubleshoot from there. There's no one single cause that will give your symptoms.

I hear the relay clicking on power on. Also, if that were not working, I would think there would most likely be a DC fault but none is reported on the diagnostics. According to the schematic, the headphone output is prior to the relays anyway, and there is no audio their either. Same with the pre outs.

There should be two instances of clicking. One where you power on the receiver, and a second one about a second or two later and that presence the sound. This is how it is on my two pioneer receivers.

yes two clicks. One on initial power up, second a few seconds later. As mentioned above, I do not believe there is a problem with the relay or the circuit that drives it. It seems to to be more of an audio routing issue.

It's quite possible that one of the LSI chips has a cracked solder joint underneath. Many AV receivers are known for that. Not worth repairing, I've thrown out many Pioneers due to this.
