Hi everyone! I've got some doubts on buying a HDFury for my NEC 9 PG Xtra, since i found a HDfury gamer edition at a low price i was thinking about buying it to maybe get a even better picture out of the projector. I use the projector to play games at 720p60Hz and watch movies at 1080p48Hz, before i was using it at 1080i96Hz but since i found out that the bandwidth of the signals is the same i've preferred stucking to 1080p. But i've read also that a 1080p signal trough VGA it's not that good and that there are medium signal losses due to the lenght of the cable (mine it's 1,80m) and due to its material quality, so that the image it's not sharp as it should be, is it right? So i thought to buy the HDFury to restrict the signal losses since the signal it's, for a part of the cable, digital and for 0,20m analogue.
And, since i use a 1080p48Hz signal, can i run it trough the HDFury maybe using Powerstrip or CRU? Or i need a scaler or some other device? To play movies i use an HTPC with a Blu ray burner
Thank you for any reply!
Best regards

Your 9PG projector with 8" tubes (actually 7" but it depends on who you want to believe) can't resolve 1080p properly (you'll have quite a bit of overlap) so I wouldn't be overly worried too much about sharpness or smearing due to upstream source losses or issues as it won't be noticed at that resolution.
Good luck!

Ok, so only with a 9'' i can resolve 1080p, i didn't know that. I'll stuck with 720p/1080i, thank you for the reply!

First, the 9PG xtra is just as a 7" machine as the Sony G70 or the NEC XGs. Second it might not fully resolve 1080p but that doesn't mean it couldn't handle. The NEC PG xtra is one of the few CRT projectors that HAS the bandwidth to resolve 1080p 60Hz, Barco owners are actually pay hundreds for modifications to come close to this...
On the other hand I wouldn't waste money on a HDFury, especially not if you use the projector with a HTPC, the analog output of the PC is much better than any HDMI-VGA converters you can get. If your VGA cable is not the crapiest chinese stuff it won't degrade your signal even on an 5m run.
Don't make the difference between 1080i and 1080p so dramatic, both 1080p and 1080i (on whatever refresh rate) contains the full image information.

Didnt you run your Barco at 1080p??? The tubes in a PG XTRA are equal to or better than those in the Cine 8... And the set, well, it's considerably fricken better...

Its all true Gábor, and for a HTPC i surely wouldnt degrade the image with a HD Fury of any sort, the 3 is fair, the 4 isnt too bad, but straight up RGB is better than both.
