So, looking to create a dedicated analog video system for converting over old tapes, discs, etc. The formats for conversion are Betamax, VHS, Umatic, LD, reel tape, audio cassette, etc.
My questions are:
1.) Any recommendations as far as converters? I know there are MANY out there. Looking for something with STABLE software, tired of buggy programs.
2.) Is it better to get a dedicated card versus a USB plugin? I might assume that the USB ones are of lesser quality...
3.) Does anyone know of converters that can handle PAL and SECAM?
Thanks.

Keep in mind that old videotapes stored the sync signals slightly differenty than you'd might expect, and this can kick back on the composite video signal. Cheap digtizer cards may throw themselves off if they get non-proper sync signal on their input.
