This is more of a general question.
Are SurfBird 1 lenses worth any research time and $? They can be had for fractions of the initial cost these days, and have seen mixed information regarding these lenses, and HT application.
->Currently running a 110" screen, and GT-17 lenses.

I'll be interested in this topic. I know that the Surfbird 1 lens is VERY high resolution, and was intended for the Marquee target projector, and IIRC, it does not have edge focus. I think it may also be suitable only for curved screens, but if they do turn out to be usable in a home theatre environment, they should be ludicrously sharp.

The only one I have ever read about is not linked to a download anymore at VDC:

Marquee® Ultra 8521 Green HUD CRT

http://vdcds.com/site/downloads/

Some manual and other stuff from the web:

http://www.projektoren-datenbank.com/pdf/VDC-8521MarqueeHUD-en.pdf

http://www.projektoren-datenbank.com/pdf/vdc-8521-Quick_Start_Guide.pdf

http://www.projektoren-datenbank.com/pdf/manual/vdc-Marquee-8521-an-en.pdf

I am not sure this is the device where the surfbird lenses come form. Maybe there is a later model or a completely different target projector, because this one is equipped with an unnamed lens with the following resolving capabilities:

- High definition, low magnification F3.3 lens

- 6 line pairs per mm (lp/mm) resolution / 8 lp/mm at short conjugate

- Marquee Ultra electromagnetic focus CRTs

- Throw Ratio: 4.37:1 "

Also no mention of LC, so my guess is AC. Very interesting CRT collectors item.

Thanks for the reply and the friendly offer to get in contact with your company via the official website. As we all here in this forum are just highly motivated enthusiasts - no one would bother you professionals with questions. Impressive to see that your department is tracing posts about VDCDS products all over the web - kind of a "360/360 field of view" to stay with the simulation specialist term.
Sorry if I made it sound like your Marquee® Ultra 8521 Green HUD CRT is an abandoned product - I should have taken in account the change of web design at your page. I would call it pretty, but that would not match the standards of the industry it represents. So allow me to call your new page.......effective.
