|
|
Hi, I'm new here (though I've been doing home theater and CRT projectors for 10+ years).
I have a friend's Zenith Pro895x CRT projector. He hasn't used it in several years, and it needed a glycol change in the guns due to contamination. I was able to do this no problem, but after I put everything back together, I plugged it in, and... nothing. Won't power up. No LEDs are lighting on any of the PSU boards or on the deflection boards.
I checked the fuses on the four power supply boards underneath the lenses and they're all good. I see 345 Volts on 14J3 on the standby power supply, but the standby LED never lights up. I'm thinking the issue is with this board, since without standby power, nothing is going to power up.
Does anyone have an extra 9-1500 standby power supply board or know where I can get one, or any additional troubleshooting tips?
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks Curt. I pulled the board out of the projector and did some poking around, and found a 0.1 ohm resistor that was reading open. I temporarily substituted a 150 ohm one just to see if the standby LED would light, and it did. I have replacements on order. Hopefully that's the only issue, a 15 cent part.
If I still have issues, I'll let you know.

The saga continues...
I replaced the resistor and reinstalled the power supply, and it immediately let out its magic smoke as soon as I plugged it in. So there was a short in the standby power supply. After much digging and pulling things apart, I found a wire I had pinched in a screw when reassembling things after the glycol replacement. After repairing that wire and replacing the resistor again, I have standby power now.
But that's it. The projector still won't turn on. The LED on the standby power supply is on, as well as the standby LED on the 9-1515 board. If I press the power button on the rear of the projector, the green power LED will turn on, or off it it was on, but nothing else is powering up. None of the other power supply LEDs go on.
Any advice? Places to check for voltage? I've been looking at the service manual but it's hard to find information in there, and there are no troubleshooting steps (i.e. "projector won't turn on: check for X volts at test point Y on board Z". I'm taking a break from it for now and will look at more closely another time. But any suggestions are welcome.

Sorry, I don't give out board level advice. That's how I make my living. I can sell you working modules for less than what you'll spend in parts trying to repair them though.
