Hey guys, looking to buy a Marquee of SONY switcher loaded with inputs. I am running out of inputs on my scaler and receiver. Would like something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PC-1270-Signal-Interface-Switcher-Switch-Video-/281616918955?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4191ad29ab

Does anyone know if the RBGHV inputs on these will pass through COMPONENt video to a scaler for transcoding? Its okay - I understand the difference between both signals. Just wondering if it will carry it

This is my intended video chain

Component source ---> Switcher ----> Scaler/AV Receiver ----> Projector

Yes component will pass through the RGBHV path, just two connectors are not used. That is up to you. You can even use RGBHV switchers to route Digital audio signals too Wink So say you connect the Ypbpr with RGB then you can route the players Digital coax out( if it has one) to your receiver through one of the other two connectors.

Nope. Time is money. They pulled that piece out of the rack to make room for new gear in about 60 seconds as opposed to five minutes to get a BNC tool and unscrew each and every lead. Since the cable was all going in the trash anyway, there was no sense in taking care. Take the extra five minutes spent there, multiple by that by the other 10 or 20 pieces of gear they were deinstalling, and all of a sudden you have an hour of a tech's time wasted on a worthless task. Not only does that cost money, but it's another hour he can't be doing something productive, or another they'll have to spend on the job.

or, they were too dam stupid to figure out it's half a twist CCW to remove. You have to remember that the junk dealers you see at University Auctions and bankruptcy sales are not the brightest bulbs in the room. You would be hard pressed to even find a high school diploma much less an electronics degree

Um, no. The university auction/surplus guys aren't the people removing the equipment. Most retrofit/renovation contracts include a line item to deinstall the old equipment. It's highly likely that it was installation tech that removed the old stuff not long before they started installing the new stuff.

Also, if you've ever had to remove and reinstall dozens of BNC's in a single install, then you know it's a total pain in the ass. It's much better if you have the Extron extraction tool, but it still takes way longer than just cutting all the cables off. If you're pulling all the analog coax from the install and going all digital/IP, then you're probably going to have to cut the terminations off anyway, and it make no sense whatsoever to gingerly remove the terminated cables from the equipment.

Need 20-year old analog coax? Doubtful. No doubt whoever removed the equipment was probably more informed about what they were going to need than you or me. Wink
