What are the odds of someone ( Curt, Mike) selling a fan mod for the 909? Even in a hush box these things are ridiculously loud. Speaking to casey, his cine9 is virtually quiet.Why cant someone work out the necessary mod for these?

It is very quiet yes, although if i go to 1920x1080 at 72Hz it gets quite a bit louder.

Isn't there a fan speed board in the Cine 9? I think that it is in the convergence tray (if you call it that on an Cine 9/909) or near the power filter. Can't you use that to deal with the fan speed or is there some reason that doesn't work?

Yeah there probably is, but knowing what you're looking at and what you're doing is a different matter all together

Yeah there probably is, but knowing what you're looking at and what you're doing is a different matter all together

909 is brighter and sharper, has more depth and a cleaner image,but overall the biggest difference is the adjustments 
1209 was quieter though

The Cine 9 has two speed controller boards, one at the back and one in the system tray.
That tray holds the system board, convergence board, astig board, and focus board. CoG is a standard feature, but optional are the IRIS3, and the soft edge modulation boards, which attach to the system board.

True. Because no one wants a hoovercraft in their living room, Barco had to redesign the fan circuit on CineMax/Cine 9. Three major changes were done:
1. Two fan speed regulators ( R763706 ) were added like Case mensioned. One for the two front fans and one for the back-left and back-right fans. The back-middle fan remains controlled by a thermal sensor in the SMPS module, like in 909 ( when starting the projector, it is normal for the back-middle fan to not spin yet. It will start to make noise when the temp. increase ).
2. The air turbulence was reduce by adding metal baffles. A plate on the back, between the fans and the perforated grill and two mini hush-boxes on the laterals.
3. Software limitation of the maximum horizontal an vertical scanning frequencies. From 180 reduced to 132KHz horizontal and from 240 reduced to 210 vertical. This way, the very self protective chassis ( controller ) won't generate a fan-fail.
So even if those two boards and baffles are installed, the controller has to be flashed with CineMax/Cine 9 software in order to work. Not that simple, unlike other projectors where a EEPROM change will do the job, here is done with a PC and Barco Explorer program. There are riscs, a tinny interruption in data can make the controller unusable.
Curt has some experience with soft. flashing on Cine 9 but that involves sending the controller to him.

Yes these Cine max chasis are worth gold. I always forget about the fans during a movie only when I turn it off I notice that they do make noise. Still the max can be made more quiet by acoustic isolating the fans from the chasis like in the marquee lvps fanmod.
