Hey Guys!

Unexpected i got offered a Barco 808 Graphics for 150 Euros.
It would be a massive upgrade from the d50 i suppose.

Problem is i can't look at the tubes cause it's not local and the
guy who ownes the Barco just used it for dvd watching since
It was Setup several years ago. He told me when he bought
It the tubes were new (around 4600hrs on it).

On a sidenote i can get a Marquee 9500 for 700 Euros (which i don't wanna pay anyway). Same as the Barco around 4500 hours on the tubes. But again i can't See the tube faces for myself..

I don't intend on watching movies with it. Will be used for Gaming only in my dedicated Gaming Room.

Any Advice would be appreciate. Please take in mind it's
Quite Hard to find a crt projector in Austria market is none existend for used machines.

Cheers
Ronald

The Barco will be fine for gaming if indeed youre playing older standard definition games, if youre playing something newer you may want to consider the Marquee because its a much better set and chances are youll get much better ongoing support, as well as the fact 9" tubes are still available quite easily too.

That said, very few console games are actually in 1080p even if that is the max res of the console, majority of them are still only 720p.

Hey Case !

Thanks for your advice, only thing is i donīt know if the marquee is worth that. Even if i would consider it i am aswell worried about the FAN Noise i had an modded 8500LC years back but it was quite loud and itīs a rather small room were my game stuff is in.

Cheers

TV/Projector: Marquee 9500 Ultra

Posted: Fri Jan 30, 2015 8:47 am    Post subject:

Hi,

This week I acquired a nice Marquee 8500 Ultra on ebay for just 150 Euros. This is only to show You that it is possile to get a decent PJ for much less money as long as You have enough patience.
700 Euros for a 4k+ hours machine seems overpriced for me. My limit would be around 200-250 Euros given the fact that it is a non-Ultra machine and that chances are high that at least the green tube will show significant wear.
There's another Marquee 9500 from the same seller I got the 8500 from. He didn't get any bids on it when he tried 500 Euros as the starting bid. Maybe You can negotiate with him...

@barclay

Actually the 8500 Ultra you got was meant for me.. but i was in so much stress i didnīt make the bid in time Wink))

And the 9500 u are talking about is the one i am talking about..

I made him an offer for 350 Euros cause i donīt know which state the tubes are in, but he told me he will put the optics down on the weekend and send me photos. And that was my maximum, donīt wanna invest in tubes aswell..

I still have pretty much every Board (only VIM missing) i modded back than from my old marquee i parted out. So atleast that would be good in the 9500 non Ultra machine.

Congrats on the 8500, barclay. I was holding myself back thinking i have enough of these Smile
What are you going to do with it? Mount 9 inchers? Tell me.
Btw: I am going to install the ĩC based temperature controlled fan control this weekend.
Regards, Julian

Be aware that many og the German 9500LC machines have PT22 green tubes.

That may not be so good for gaming at 50Hz...

Well, I still don't know. I just entered the minimum bid and to my big surprise it was successful.
As far as I can see, it seems to be fairly new and clean (the internal remote has the VDC logo) although the hour meter reads 11,000 hours. The tubes will definately be toasted unless they have been replaced without resetting the hours. I will have to see that when I have it on the bench.
Depending on the overall status it could be reworked/upgraded for my passive 3D project or it will be parted out for some more spares (umm, where do I put those???).

Cool, have fun with less noise and more stability!
From my experience I can tell that getting the temperature of the rear heat sink under control makes a big difference: It eliminates convergence drift almost completely...

Yes, that can happen. But it's mostly the 8500's which have the fast (and yellowish) green for stereoscopy. If the machine hasn't been modified regarding the tube types this can be identified using the model number. If it ends with '-ST' (like the one that I acquired: 38-P15285-ST) it should be the fast green.
On the 9500 that I pointed out to Ronald, the model number reads 38-P13096-95. This should be a classic 9500LC with a green LCP tube...

I always ask for a pic of the label on the tube bell, there is really no way of knowing with these machines.

I just got a 9500LC Ultra Tanorama like the one on Ebay, for about 130Euro, with GT17 lenses and mint tubes, the green was a PT22.

It had swetty belows, and lot of fungus in the chambers, other than that it was working fine.

Its cheaper to buy a 9500LC than a green Celement.. A bit funny.

So fyi the 9500 will be mine i came to an agreement with the Seller on a decent price. Still i will get photos of the Tubes on the weekend. Will ask him about the Serial Number aswell so i can be sure.

But i do think itīs a normal 9500LC

Cheers
Ronald

The serial number won't tell You much. It's the model number that matters. It is visible in the last photo he has on his ebay ad.

This is what the model number in the last photo indicates...
