Well I guess you can not run your projector without a lamp unless you disconnect the 390v to the ballast first, lol. This had to be the most smoke and hiss I have seen in a long time. Lots and lots of smoke. You can see the liquid electrolyte in the housing. Couldn't get a good pic of the cap.. Hopefully that is all that went up. I had just finished a repair on the main board and just wanted to go through the startup to verify. Well at least the first problem has been solved, lol. Fun day, but smells funny here now, lol.

Yeah, we'll see just how tough these JVC's really are, lol.

My Fluke is an 83. Had it a long time. Great meters.

What model JVC is that, Mac? Looks like an RS20 or RS25 judging by the off-center optical assembly.

Cheers,
SC

Maybe I'll buy it from you after you fix it. I really liked mine. I kind of blew it and sold it too cheap when I moved. I really want an eShift model, but if the price was right... Wink

TV/Projector: All of them!

My best digital story is from the BEst Buy head office where we put in a boardroom AV system for them about 12 years ago. Typical, RGB switching, VHS machine, DVD player, sound system and an LCD projector.

1) We had to go out and buy the DVD and VHS machine, as we were told the paperwork for them to transfer stock to head office was brutal. I marked them up 35%. Smile

2) About 3 years later I was called by the head office to check the LCD projector. I think it was a Hitachi, 1500 lumens. THe blue LCD screen had bled all over the place, so it was a writeoff. To my amusement, the big 'CLEAN FILTER" message was on the screen. When I asked how long that had been on for, I was told by the AV 'expert'.. "Oh, a few months, we just push the enter button to get rid of the message'..

And you wonder why the LCD panel died...

I don't have any thoughts yet. New lamp is on its way. But I could tell someone was already in there and I have eerie thoughts there are still more problems. But I cannot continue with out the lamp. After the cap vented on the ballast I disconnected it and triggered it into thinking the lamp was there and on but the projector still went into protect. So I may still have other problems. But i want to try the lamp first.
