watched this " special edition" DVD from 2004, (released for the 50 year d-day anniversary) again last night after not seeing it for a very long time (10 years?).

It seems like they cut the opening landing craft scenes significantly from the theatrical version, which is weird. Usually the DVD release is supposed to be longer , not shorter. I'm surprised i didn't notice this first time I watched the disc.

In the theater, 15 years ago, I remember the guy standing behind Tom Hanks urinating himself and TH looking down, then stepping forward away from the puddle. They also showed the adjoining craft getting a direct hit from beach artillery and exploding. None of this is on the DVD and the whole scene is really weird, like 1 minute they're in the boat and then they're on the beach, the timing seems really off which is not normal for Spielberg. in the Theatrical version the boat trip is much longer.

weirdest thing of all, there are no results talking about this in any internet search. Does anyone know anything about this? Do you guys remember the original opening sequence? Is there a longer (full length )blue ray version?

I find nothing more aggravating than buying a sh*tty DVD which is actually worse than the theatrical version Thumbs Down
