Cine 8 convergence try

OK those pictures are as expected. The only difference is the COG board in the Cine convergence tray.

Ok place the Cine convergence tray in the BG808. It's possible we might also need to swap the control board which we will do anyway but lets just move the convergence tray over. When you have moved the tray power up the BG808 and see if you get any error messages. Be carefull when putting the tray in make sure the connectors line up properly between the tray and the frame you can see these by looking down through the top of the projector as you slide the tray in.

Keith,
I will swap the trays as you suggest, it will take a little time though, as you may remember I took the quadroupler out of the 808 and put it in the Cine, as that one had cooked itself. so will have to swap it back into the 808
When I have done that I am only looking for error messages, yes?

Someone messed up that projector big time. Those tube are LC tubes and cine 8 (808) is a AC machine.
Even not all boards are genuine Cine 8.

The tubes should be P16LXV for the AC version, id be interested to know what is different between them and the LNPs fitted, its nothing to do with LC though, the tubeface is the same on all EM focus P16s ive seen, its the neck that varies.

I am with you here Case. I can't see any difference between AC and LC tubes apart from the mountings. I have AC tubes on LC tanks and they work just fine.

Yeah I have too, I did it with my XG recently. The only time ive see them curved inward on the tube face for LC is on some rear projection TVs, and its probably as much to do with helping the very short focusing lenses as it could be anything else.

Its not to say that the LNP tubes may be different enough internally to require different focus yokes over the LXVs, id be very interested to know the neck length on both and how the internals are arranged.

Here are the only numbers I can find on the focus coils the
BG 808 has identical numbers on each coil which is: 1073177

Cine 8 also has identical numbers on each coil, which are: 1180057

Will have to wait for someone else to confirm what they should be for those tubes, if anyone has an ONYX ( KAL had one, if he remembers what his yoke numbers were ) or a Cine 8 Digital, and compare to what part the Cine 8 Plain has.

Did we ever establish if this set is a Cine 8 Plain or a Cine 8 digital?

The def yokes and focus coils have the same part number???

Test all functions if it works with no errors.

Have a close look at that picture, read the note regarding "700 series projectors" and look where your jumper is set.

There is no proof of the contrary yet.

What a f***en load of s***. There most certainly is proof, unless you want to call Mike Eby, Mark AW, and Doug Baisey liars too??

Well show the proof. Your clame about the bandwidth of the xg is just as trustworthy as the clame you made for the 909 that turned out te be using the wrong testimages and what more. I see no reason why you used the right images on the xg.

Have swapped the Quadroupler back into the BG808, put in the Cine 8 convergence tray, and other than all 3 tubes very dimly lit and a
'invalid enrtry' message on green (very dim) had to look into the tubes to see it, there was nothing else to show for the effort

Am I looking at the daughterboard on the actual convergence tray with the legend
700 SERIES PROJECTORS?
if so then the jumper J811 is set as pr the picture that is top left and center
unlike the "ALL OTHER PROJECTORS" which would be set center and right

Don't change any jumpers.

Power off put the old tray back in and power up again. Lets make sure the projector is operating properly.

Ok. So I take it that the focus is good on the BG808.

Moving some boards and not others may cause errors but the projector should still power up and produce an image. I want to move one at a time to make sure we are not moving a problem. When all the boards are shifted there should be no errors. That jumper on the COG board above does appear to be in the wrong position so shift it to the other pins and put the tray back in.

One more suggestion to look at on the cine 8.
If the 17 V is off more than 0,5 V the picture can blank out. Read this.
http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco808_Layout5.shtm

Perhaps the 17 V wa adjusted a bit to high causing the last issue?

Well show the proof. Your clame about the bandwidth of the xg is just as trustworthy as the clame you made for the 909 that turned out te be using the wrong testimages and what more. I see no reason why you used the right images on the xg.

I never tested the XG and never posted test images from it either.

Use the search button and youll be amazed what youll find about just how much better the XG is compared to any other unmodded 8 inch machine out there, a few years ago when such experts in the field as Doug and Mark were around, they did many tests. The results mustve been good enough for them, as I see no documentation indicating they managed to improve the sets with any mods.

You saw one test from Gabor's XG that isn't working properly, and it was infact him that reposted the image of Mike's bone stock XG perfectly showing 1920x1080 at 72Hz.

And you know all too well I could care less if you call me a liar, but to make such statements as "the XG has terrible bandwidth" when you clearly haven't done any searching and have no idea what youre on about is not ideal is it.

I saw that when I looked real close at the pics back on my PC monitor, and although I doubt itll help the issue, I reckon it should be on the right side instead of where it is Wink

Logically Case you would be right but I have seen those work in reverse and this might be a case in point as it came from the Cine 8 projector. Although thats screwed up so thats why we will test it by moving the jumper. It will either work or not.
