Hi,
i am new to CRT projectors and love them. Yesterday i bought an ECP 4500 in very good condition but i have one problem.
When I turn the projector on it lightens up the tubes and turns them off. Then again on and off and so on. So I would say it is flashing.

I have attached a cinemateq picture optimizer II+ with an SNES over Scart RGB (European). I can see the picture so it is getting input correct.

Yesterday after one hour the picture was stable and i was doing the setup of the tubes. Today i have the same problem with flashing and i don't know if this is correct for this old projector. What could be the problem?

Is it loosing contacts with the cards or is the input not correct? I hope someone can help me to bring back life to this projector.

Kind regards,
Andreas

Assuming the fans stay at a normal speed, and it's only the picture flashing on and off, does the picture 'zoom' back in, from being dim, too large, and a bit out of focus? Does it repeat every second or two?

If so, you probably have a bad HVPS. I have spares for cheap if you want to buy one. here's where it's located:

Welcome, and enjoy it!

Thanks for fast feedback Very Happy
It is definitly flashing and repeating every one or two seconds.
I don't know if i understand you correct of the dim and zooming. I see the picture correctly as it could be after an complete reset when the tubes are lightning.

I live in Austria so i don't know how much it would cost to get a replacement.
Next week I have the option to buy an ECP 3500 and an Nordmende which are both working without problems.

How can i check the HVPS if this is realy the error?

you can't check the HVPS, it's a sealed unit. Replacement only unfortunately.

$140 incl air shipping is what I can do, shipping will be about $80 of that.

Ok. Sad

Thanks for your offer but the projectors was only 40€ and 220$ is what both projectors (Nordman and ECP 3500) will cost me.

So I will check the other two projectors next saturday and maybe i can use the HVPS from the 3500 on the 4500.
If not i will check the tubes and maybe hold them as replacement as they are using the same one.

My last option will then be your offer. I am giving you feedback next week.

I want also thank you for your massive information on your website. It was one big criteria for me to try myself on CRT Projectors.

Kind regards,
Andreas

Hi,
today i wanted to try the projector again and this time i have no problem with the picture and the HVPS!?

I think the HVPS is the problem and sometimes it works and sometimes not.
Maybe i will use the projector for my old consoles and not for watching films. When the projector won't work at night for playing games it is no problem. I will try it the next day Smile

For watching films I will get a NEC PG9Xtra (9200) tomorrow. I will use this one for watching.
Is there something I should check on the NEC? Are there any modifications for the fans?
