I'm setting up my cinema room. Projector is a Barco 708 MM, Blu-ray player is an LG BX580 and both are connected via a HDfury3. Screen width is 3.1 Metres.

With the BD player set to 720p I get a nice stable image with both Blu-Ray and DVD playback. However, while projected Blu-ray's fill the full 3.1 Metres screen width, DVD's only project an image width of about 2.7 Metres.

If the player outputs the same 720p for both Blu-Ray and DVD then why are the two image sizes different? Thanks for any advice.

Because your bluray player is scaling them differently, and it may be because the blurays force a 60Hz output where as the DVDs could be pushing out 50Hz. I dont know where you are, so cant be sure on that.

Try setting it to 192x1080i and it should fill the screen with both, or be very close to the same.

I'm in Tasmania, Australia.

Yes, setting player output to 1080i does project both BD and DVD at about the same size. However, the Barco 708 creates a much better image with 720p input. Is this an issue with the player?

Possibly, but there is another option, try setting the output to AUTO, set the max output to 720p, that should mean itll put out 720x576p for DVDs. I dont know what settings that bluray player has.

Your issue is almost certainly the 50Hz output for DVDs.

The best option is buy an OPPO 103, there is a button on the remote to very easily change resolutions, but you can also force it to send 60Hz even on PAL region DVDs, so it will be basically the same image size on both DVD and bluray.

I had this same issue in the past on my Barco CineMAX, until i got the OPPO, DVDs would cause the player to output 50Hz, and that would not fill the screen width even at 99.

Im in Queensland.
