I'm cutting up my ceiling. I'll be stacking two 9500LC's for my 16x9 and blending two 8510's for my 138" 2.35:1. After enjoying Nash's theater, I can't not do it... but that's another thread that I'll wake up again later...

Since the stack is easier, I'm doing it first.

Some questions for the experts... I searched and found a couple threads about stacking, but I don't have the ability to do a vertical stack. I have to do side by side on the ceiling. I'm mounting now and I will be embedding the mounts into the joists to get the most height, leaving a little below ceiling to allow for some up/down swing while finishing setup.

- Marquees are capable of a side by side stack, right? I'll have the latest software (2008 vintage projectors).

- If I can set up with full 16x9 rasters on the tube face, I should be able to use that distance for the stack, right? I assume the skew will only grow the vertical size, so that should be fine...

- I assume I need to aim each projector (green) so that the raster, even though distorted, is centered on the screen before completing any geometry setup...

- Any pitfalls I might get stuck on?

My screen is 120" diagonal. Raster, if centered, is about 95% of the horizontal tube surface.

Try it on the floor first, I would not have advised side stacking on less than 120" screen width.

H Linearity correction will be at the limit; the smaller the screen width the more H Lin correction required.

If this works, mount the projectors almost touching. You will need a test grid from BluRay fed to both machines; the onboard patterns are not identical.

Oh boy... Looks like the screen is only 104.6" wide... Hope it works! I'll be setting it up on the floor first (even though I've already cut the ceiling open and installed one of the mounts...)

Has anyone tried running the projectors without the side metal installed? kind of like the 8510...

I'm thinking of taking all the covers off, taking the side metal off, and running them just that much closer to each other, with a hush box built around them with plenty of air flow.

Either that or I wonder if I can install 9" tubes into the 8510 chassis that I have.

We did a side stack here in Scottsdale on a ten foot width and it just works with about four inches between the projectors

Going to set this up on the floor first with no inches between the projectors. Those four inches should possibly do it...

Matching of raster heights and widths straight on to a screen first may proven beneficial as you would be less likely to run out of range in the corners

Ok... I've gone far enough to realize this is not for me. I've got an issue with burning odd rasters into my tubes and with overdriving my geometry controls. I'm going to stick with one projector, maximize the raster area, and enjoy movies as I work on the blend.

Too much BS unless they're vertically stacked.

your over thinking it. There has to be keystone, no matter what. Even blended PJ's will have some key stone or a single unless you set it up towards the center of the screen.


Do the side by side with the 8500's and save the 9500lc's for the blend.

Been thinking about the 8500's... they'd have to run further away from the screen, making the angle they are offset smaller, and reducing all the bad stuff...
