|
|
I bought one of jeremys digital PJ's. I am running it with a fury 3. The problem I am having is if I run anything less than 1080P into it it flickers badly and blacks out and then comes back on and starts flickering again. It wouldn't be that big of a deal except that I want to run a DISH signal into it and it only outputs 1080I. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

What does it do if you put the 1080i limiter on at the switches on the Fury?
What resolution is this projector?

Setting the limits on the fury to 1080I it does the same thing no effect at all. I don't know what the max res is, I assumed 720P.

What is the model number of the projector?
Have you tried switching to component?

Smart 600i2 I think. Component is not an option.

Yes Component is an option. That white board system used one of 2 projectors I can find:
Unifi 35
Unifi 45
Both list Component and 16:9 support.
It list's Component over 3 RCA jacks. Set the HDFury3 to component output and try again.
Also while still in RGB mode, make sure you don't have the image shift enabled. Push and hold the shift button for 15 seconds either way to reset to center.
It may be a case of accepting 1080i only over component. I know allot of my projectors do it that way.

Why not switch the source to 720p or 576p then? That should solve the issue straight away!!
If you cant select those outputs, put it through an AVR that will output 720p, almost all of them do.

Toshiba TDP-SB20 is the model of the projector. As Jeff is aware I haven't personally used anything other than my HD Fury Gamer (which worked without conflict) on these projectors.
It should be able to handle a 720p/1080i signal without issue, since that is what I was running out of my Blu-ray player with it.
However, if Jeff can't get it to work, a VGA to component cable is always an option as he mentioned.
And as Case and AR mentioned, the fury should be set to component, and the source would be where I would be changing resolutions. I didn't have anything in-line with the projector, it was straight from the BDP to the PJ.

Hold on, im not saying it should be on component at all!! I reckon it should be on RGB, image shift should be set to OFF in the DIPs, and the source should be set to the native resolution of the projector, which is apparently 1280x720p, feeding it 1920x1080i is totally pointless and i wouldnt be at all suprised if it has issues with it. 1280x720p is going to look miles better on that thing anyway.
Either way, its nothing what so ever to do with the Fury its self, its the source device.
I really have to ask though, why are you using the Fury at all? Why not connect to the DVI?

Ahhh in that case it does look like Component over VGA.
Jeff, leave the HDFury3 connected with the VGA cable, set it to YPbPr/YUV, set your Satelite box to 1080i and try again.

Hold on, is this it or close to it here???
http://www.projectorcentral.com/Toshiba-TDP-S20U.htm
If so, it should be set no higher that 768x576, because that is the closest to native that machine can do. That is a far cry from a 1280x720p projector, its a portable presentation projector!

The VGA connector on this one is also used for the Component connection. Connector type, not resolution.
Yes it's an 800x600 projector.

The only manual available for this projector is "bundled" with the smartboard manual this projector was apparently used for. AR is correct, by VGA I was referring to the connection, not resolution.

Jeff already has this, but here's the manual for the projector/interactive whiteboard. Toshiba doesn't officially support this projector on their website, likely because it was used exclusively with the smartboards. I never received any of the smartboard stuff for these, and I didn't even know that's what these were used for until I located the manual for it.
Case is right, 1080i is a waste and totally not worth doing, stick with 720p from the source. Remember its a digital, not a CRT. Interlaced signals look horrible on digital machines most of the time anyway.

720p is still too high for this machine. Its only 800x600 pixels, feeding it 1280x720 is too much. Feeding it anything more than 800x600 is too much.

They almost all are, I have two of them sitting here!! Yet to see one this old of this type use RCA sockets for component, seen that on th so called high end units of the time, but the portables all seem to share one socket for both.

I changed everything to 720P and fired it up and no flickering at all. Everything works as it should. The flickering does occur in ANY interlaced format though. To be honest running 1080P out of the Sony BD looks sharper than it does at 720P go figure. FWIW I really like this projector and wanted to tell Jeremy thanks. Thanks Jeremy ! It is exactly what you said it was only better I think.

1080p will probably look sharper because it is closer to a multiple of available pixels, where as 720p is trying to resize 720 into 600. And youre trying to scale it twice in the event of bluray.
Try it on 576p or 480p and see how that looks in comparison.
I have an InFocus here that doesn't like interlaced signals either, it displays the image twice, one above the other, like a split screen video game.

Glad you got it working Jeff, I knew you would. Enjoy it!
