Hi all,
It's been a good few years since I last stripped my lowly Barco Data 500 down to get it on the ceiling. At the time I can't remember what precautions I followed to make sure both the pj and I were safe. I'm wanting to upgrade to an 808 at some point so need to think about that unit too. I'd like to re-home the 500 cos it's like new and would be a shame to part it - realistically though I know that probably nobody is going to want it whole, or in parts.
I'm stripping the units down to work around a long term back injury.
So, a few questions:
Are there any big capacitors that need discharging or are there bleeder resistors on boards which will do the same thing?
I recently looked at the fungus removal guide and noticed that the HV lead of each tube was left connected but wasn't sure why. Is it to do with the capacitance on the tube being dangerous? Do I need to discharge the tube, if so - how?
If I have to part out the 500 what bits should I keep hold of for the 808 spares? Splitter, quadrupler, HV leads or is nothing suitable? I'd probably keep the tinted glycol as I've got 6 tubes worth.
Please let me know any other things I haven't thought about. Thanks in advance.
Simon
