to a dedicated sub amp that weighs 12 pounds ? I keep seeing ads for PLATE amps for subs, they are very reasonably priced I just cant wrap my head around how that tiny little amp could possibly drive a big 15 inch 500 watt sub and do it even close to a class D sub amp could do.

Most have switching power supplies and possibly amplification in the semi digital domain. They do work, but are disposable if they blow up.
