Bit OT here... I have a HP DV7-6B55DX intel based laptop here that is giving me some hell, and before I contact the customer to let them know whats going on, I wanted to get some other opinions.

The issue is, right from power on, the entire built in LCD panel gets white vertical lines across the entire display. They are perfectly spaced apart about every other pixel, across the screen, so it looks like 800 white jail bars. (LCD is 1600x900)

The computer is still usable, the LCD panel is NOT the issue (I already replaced it with a different one and did not do anything different). The LCD LVDS cable is not the issue, so that would leave the motherboard, or intel core i5-2430m CPU with built in Intel HD3000 graphics. The intel processor diagnostic tool says the core i5-2430m passed the tests, HP diagnostics say the ram, hard drive, and system board are fine, my own personal diagnosis of this cannot be concluded because there is an obvious issue.

Now, when I hook up an external display (whether VGA or HDMI ports) the video is perfectly normal on the external monitor as it should be, no issues at all. It is ONLY when on the built in display.

So the 2 things I have left are: the motherboard, or CPU. There is nothing left in the computer to replace... So what do you guys think?

Oh, and the motherboard does NOT have integrated AMD or NVidia graphics, its graphics are solely on the CPU chip

I'd say it's the motherboard then, since the cpu's vga is working otherwise, and I'm pretty sure the cpu is not natively outputting the LVDS signal, so probably the LVDS converter/driver is the dead on the motherboard, you might even able to locate the LVDS driver. It's an other story how to replace it, though.

So far, I have a server, that I will be expanding the data store on, and a desktop PC with a bit of horsepower, so if the software recommended to do what I want is CPU heavy (or GPU via CUDA, as my desktop does well there as well), I am fine with that.
