I'm seeing what I can do with this old Runco VIVIX-II that I got for almost nothing. It looks almost ideal for running a CRT projector. I found that in the service menu you can set the output resolution to 1080i instead of 720p. I also figured out that shorting pins 22 and 23 together on U700 (MZX499) it allows it to output analog RGB when receiving DVI/HDMI HDCP). I'm running into one major problem

Everything works fine unless you give it 1080i (either DVI or component). When it tries to do 1080i to 1080i the picture loses sync and the colors go wrong. The projector is still in sync, and the Runco on screen menus and built in test patterns look perfect, but the video is shifted down and scrolling horizontally, and the colors look a lot like what happens when you feed component into an RGB input. If I change the source to anything other than 1080i it locks back in. If I change the Runco output to anything other than 1080i it also locks back in.

I know this was sold to run a 720p display, but it has a 1080i option in the menu, and the HD processor chip (Genesis GM6015) supports 1080i. Is it a bug that was never fixed? Is there a firmware update that would fix it? Is my box broken?

Andy
