To use the phosphor grain method for optical focus, what mag binocs would you use?

Something that can focus close distances. Try a monocular, I think it works better. I can't find mine to get the power of it for you, sorry.

I have a pair of 10X25 and I can just make out the pixels on a 720 Plasma 42"; not good enough for this task I think. Just asking
Thanks

Low power generally.

I have 7x35 Nikon and they are on the edge of being too long with my PJ 12 ft. from the screen.

8x25/6.3° are the specs, minimum focus says 2.5meters, but with my eyes and glasses off i can get it much closer.

If you happen to find it let me know please.
I'm trying to do it with a bushnell 10-25. I set it so it's focused on the tape marking the centre but not much happens adjusting the barrel.

Move the focus knob/barrel slowly the grain will move in and out of focus quickly. Start with the best focus of an internal test pattern. Scan the entire screen; somewhere on the screen there should be grain viable. It is a very subtle grain (color) almost like fine glass beads.

Another tip; use the phosphor grain technique to adjust Scheimpflug too! It won't be perfect like the center but you can move a white card from the screen corners towards the PJ. Adjust lens flapping until the grain shows equal distance from all four corners. Ideally it should land on the screen; unfortunately nothing is perfect.

You really should defocus the image before doing the phosphor grain focus method. Just to be sure your focusing the grain and not something else.

"Glas beads" helps. Gives me some idea what I'm looking for.
Thanks
Btw what power mag are you using?
By defocus : Adjust electronic focus to "0"?

With 7X mag, you're seeing at 7 ft what you would see at 1 ft just looking ie) no binocs.
So at just under 8" from the screen just with your glasses if you wear glasses or better still nothing if you don't wear glasses, you don't need any binocs.
WTF am I missing here?
