Just chatting with a customer that has an old DWIN 700 and as old of a Transcanner I or II.

That means he most likely isn't running HD, and his Transcanner has screwed up. Customer is nontechnical, so if I tell him to get a Moome box, he'll need someone local to do a new setup.

Anyone up for the task? I don't need anything out of it. If he goes for it, I'd just turn you right on to him.

I might be able to help but have never done a DWIN before. I won't charge him cuz I'm a nice guy. Where in SLC is he? I am just south of him in Provo about 30-40 minutes away. However he may have to wait till the weekend.

This will take a bit, he'd have to order the Moome box first. Not sure where he lives, but good to know you're close. Let me link him to this thread, give him some options, as he'll most likely need to upgrade his DVD player, receiver. etc as well to go HDMI.

I am not worried about calibrating and dialing it in. I am just wondering what he is wanting. PM me your convo so I can get an idea. FYI depending on the condition of his unit, I might have a different option for him. I have a DATA 808s laying around if he would rather go that route. The wife is getting after me to unload some equipment. He can just have it if that helps you out in terms of what he is wanting to do. Just a thought man.

BAsically has (I suspect) a non HD setup from 1998-1999 or so. Has has the option:

-get a line doubler/new DWIN scaler and stay non HD
-upgrade to a Moome box, get a BR and HD cable/satellite box, and a new A/V receiver to go HD with HD switching.
-pull out the DWIN to go digital.

I'll wait until he responds, and will advise then. I've also linked him to this thread.

The DWIN is a cute little box -- I had one -- but the PQ of the 808s would kill it. I assume you'd offer it to him pretty cheap. That's the way I'd go, unless he wants to stay non-HD. You know how to set it up for him, the PQ is vastly better than the DWIN, and it's a helluva lot cheaper than a decent digital. The only disadvantage I can think of is that the Barco, even though it's quiet, won't be as quiet as the basically-silent DWIN.

Ok, customer got back to me. He doesn't want to spend any money on this, so now I"m looking for a used working TS1 or TS2 that he can drop in without having to reconverge.

Anyone got one? I'll confirm whether it's a plain Transcanner or a II once he checks tonight.

He says he hardly watches movies, and doesn't want to put any effort or work into it. I'll buy the quadrupler off you. Very Happy

He wants his existing setup back up and running for as little as possible money. If I can find him a working Transcanner, he can connect it, and he's done.

I have a transcanner here. Have to look and see if it is a II or not. I remember it has a blue stripe in front.

Yup mine is a Transcanner One. I pulled it out of storage. Don't have the remote handy but I guess he has that already. I don't have a way to thoroughly test it but it worked when I stored it.
