I just saw an old commercial on youtube for GEMCO (old school west coast chain)from 1984 advertising a new 19 inch color TV for 380 bucks and a new VCR for 480 bucks. That is the same amount for most 40 inch TV's and a Blu-ray player.

Curt,

for 84, those are door buster prices. Hell I remember our 19 inch Sharp Portland model almost broke the back for us in 1984 at 400 bucks that we bought. However we did have that thing for like 12 years before it finally died. I mean it lasted 4 house moves.

thanks mostly to the PV800 CRT projector that came out in 1985, our little mom and pop TV shop sold $77,000 worth of Zenith products in 1985 or 1986. They gave away trips to dealers with sales over $75K, and since my boss had already gone to places like Hong Kong, he gave me the last trip to a place called The Pointe, somewhere in Arizona (Phoenix?) Had a great time...coke bottle glasses and mulletperm in tow...

<edit>Hmm, good memory, this place:

In 84 I bought a new hitachi VCR. Paid 1,000 bucks for it. Had it hooked to cable tv and it had those little thumb wheels to tune in the channels. On occasion I could get it to lock onto the scrambled nudie channel. Laughing
