Hello, all. Last year I ended up with a Zenith Pro 881XR (made in 2000) as part of the purchase of some sound equipment. I know a lot about a few things, a little about a lot of things, and absolutely nothing about CRT. The collection included a nice Pioneer DVD player (not Blu-ray), and no video player, so I am already confused as to what the thing will do. Might something have been done to allow this to use DVD? Have I miss-read what I've seen here and it actually "should" read digital? Anybody have a beer? I am starting from scratch with the installation and hoping that there is someone local to Milwaukee, WI that knows something about it....oh boy!....here we go!

Sad to say, this is a composite video projector only, it won't do HD. If this is a new in the box unit, you should really look for a PRO 900 or PRO 895 projector for $100-200 with burnt tubes, and swap the tubes from the 881 into the HD ready 895/900.

It'sa royal PITA to set up regardless of which model you have, the Zenith engineers were on crack when they wrote them. It's absolutely the biggest learning curve I've ever had on any set.. but it's do-able.

Maybe play with this unit, read the manuals and if you're hooked, then look for a PRO 900.

sure, a composite cable output came on most DVD players, which is unfortunate as DVD is 480P and composite video is half that. So when Curt said it won't do HD he was being nice, it won't even do progressive video 480P.
The good news is that much better CRT projectors are practically falling out of the sky.
