Would it be wise to change my tubes and modded boards from my 808s to a 1208s/E model? Seems everyone agrees the 1208/1209 chassis beats the 808 chassis.

Getting the chassis anyway so it's not like i have to spend any money, only some effort.

I owned both and 1208s/E is reasonable less noisy then 808 so yes I would use 1208.
Although I really like the case design of the 808 over 1208

Thanks for the answer! I will do the swap! With some luck the red tube will be okay, guess 1 high resolution tube beats none at all Smile

A lot of the boards are different than 808s

With 1208s (or s/E) chassis and electronics boards you can make a 9" projector.
BG1208s is the same of BG1209s except tubes and lenses.

That's one of the reason i'm getting the chassis. The other one being the fact that the HV parts are worth the asking price (100 euro)

Okay just got back from the picup and wanted to give an update.

Chassis looks great, perfectly clean under the hood, a lot quieter than a 808 and there are perfect red and blue P16's inside. Smile

Anyone have a single green p16 for me? I might aswell keep looking for a unicorn.

Both sets are good. Might be better to sell the upgraded 808s and just update the 1208 as needed. I would not waste my time though when you can get a 9 set ready to go much easier. I say sell both and get what you really want.

9"sets still go for quite a lot of money in Europe and grabbing one from the US is way too expensive due to shipping! The only reasonable options now is to get 9" tubes housings and lenses and upgrade my 1208 to a 1209. Should i find any shipping would not kill the deal Smile

Update on my 1208s/e!

Swapped magnets and installed my mint green 180dvb22
Installed the 6 pole astig magnets
Installed my HD144's
Put it on the ceiling

It's a little bit quiter than a 808, it's noticeable but not a real wow-experience, the cooling does seem to be quite a bit better! A dedicated fan for the convergence tray, more space between parts and less obstacles for the airflow!

No idea how it is possible but it seems to be sharper than a 808! On my green tube with quick astig settings i can easily see 1080p Vertical 1/1pixel pattern, a Horizontal 1/1 pattern isn't great but the lines are visible. With decent astig and focus settings 1080p would be doable. This surprises me since i had the RGB Input and driver from my 808 inside the 1208. Having a P16 Blue is great, it's a lot sharper than my low res tube, the red P16 tube is a bit sharper than my low res one but not really a lot sharper than the low res green i have.

Also convergence seem to be stable faster, probably due to the fan which cools the convergence boards.

Does anyone know what the extra cable on the deflection Yoke is for?

I think that also required the supports of the tubes because the housings of 180DVB's and P16's are very different than P19's.

What? Shoot a photo.

The deflection Yoke had a small additional connector with maybe 4 wires.

I know about the support and top bracket but that should be doable. It's not a real plan at the moment, it's just a possibility Smile

I think that they are yokes for a P19's tubes.
In fact in my 1209s there are two multipolar wires from yokes.
One (4 wires) is connected at motherboard and other at deflection switching board.

Perhaps Curt can answer better at your question.

Exactly how my chassis looks like.

Can't be exclusive P19 yokes, it's a 1999 1208S/E with every part having the correct serial-number. I was just wondering what the additional coils were for!

I knew that the chassis, motherboard and electronics of the 1208s is the same as the 1209s (except the supports for the tubes and neckboards).
But I expected that the deflection yokes were the same of 808 (only one multipolar wire).
If you have unused wires from yokes to motherboard, perhaps they're useless and you can mount yokes from 808/Cine8.

But I suggest to await the response from Curt or others who know better the other differences between 1208s and 1209s.

Everything is connected and working fine!

1 wire to the deflection switching board, 1 to the motherboard.

It's just that i assumed these would be the same as the yokes in my 808 but they are not.

By the way, do you know what the "high scanning mode"is for? Seems i can adjust the point where the projector swaps between low and high with the P1 potentiometer, high and low scan have independent width coils and independent horizontal linearity.

But why does this additional mode exist?
