|
|
I was curious how many people have seconds of everything. This was never more apparent to me than yesterday when my Mercedes went out on me in west Texas. If I was back in SoFl, then I would jump in my Astro and continue on down the road till the car was fixed. Now, I am stuck till the dealer repairs it.
On the CRT side, I have had two G70s for years (well 1 working pj and the boards out of another). I recently grabbed another G90, so I have a back up for that one as well. Depending on how good the new JVC is (and the Merc repair bill), I may put up the G90 and keep the second one as a spare.
I know for work I have tools and supplies for a lot things. I have even contemplated flying back to SoFl and working then returning if my car takes a long time to repair.
So, does everyone here keep spares of everything?

One truck(Cadillac escalade) one projector(vidikron vision 3 aka e home marquee 8110+)
For my truck I have a 79 Chrysler cordoba(yea its old school but it runs) I am currently restoring it (no I am not going to sell it)
Currently no back up parts for my marquee(may stock up on parts sometime)
Spanky I may get the g70's soon provided nothing happens that needs my money first
Also if I need it I have a go kart to zip around on
FYI spanky Mercedes are pricy to repair

I build computers as a hobby for friends and friends of friends so I have maybe 30 of those at home. 10 cars but only the one I drive daily is in real driving condition...for my current daily 801s barco I have 2 spares, bg801 and bd801 but I also have 2 working 800, a working D50 and 1252qm and a 7500 marquee and a 1208/2 that I just got a few months ago but havent set up yet...so I have enough crt to last a few more years into the 8K time...

As for the projector (and generally electronics) I don't really have spare boards as a whole, but I have each of the key parts which are rather hard to come by, and I can fix the rest for myself.
No car, but have two bikes, duh...

I always have spares for anything that's important to me.
Used to have a ton of spares for the CRT, now I have a spare Digital for the first Digital. That's ok, the spare was free!
And yes, I have had 2 vehicles pretty much since I started driving.
I did find that it's ok to have only one spare for everything except toilet paper. You can never have enough toilet paper.
Keep to many spares and they decay just sitting and won't work when you need them.
Except toilet paper....
