I still have a 708 and was watching it last night...I am pleased with the pic except for the streaking.
Anyone know if this was ever resolved?

I guess not.
Probably similar ABL BW related issue like in 80* series 75MHz amps.
Don't have 708 schematics to say for sure.
Some close-up photos of neck board back side might give me glue if there is same crappy ABL circuit used.

What does the streaking look like? I can't say I've ever noticed it on mine. Then again, maybe I shouldn't ask - sometimes ignorance is bliss!

joatmon...I'd be happy to come by and show it to you
It's usually when there are dark and bright images on the screen at the same time...the peaks tend to have lines run off to the side.
In fact, I'd like to see yours in action...i could remain silent if you want to stay in bliss.
Ile, how might something like this be corrected?

I can force streaking to happen (that which I notice anyway) by boosting gamma too much on my Gamma-X module.

Upper is streaking in stock 801s/808 tubes and lower is abl components removed.
Here's my cruel streaking test picture.

Ben, for 801s/808 it's needed to remove around 30 smd components of each "neck board".

Probably yes.
Tried found pictures from net, but all was from tube connector side. It doesn't seem to have similar around 16 feet IC, but maybe back side have.
801s/808 procedure, IC4 is for ABL

Wow. I can't say I've actually seen streaking like that happen on my 708/Cine7. That's nasty.

Ile,
I have the service manual here with full schematics...should I post a pic of the top of the neck boards?
Looks similar, but not exact to the one you already modified.

It's actually nothing like that with video material and looking to screen.
Test picture is designed to show it as good as possible and picture is taken from tubes face plate.

Ile, I download your pattern-of-streaking-doom and displayed it on my 708/Cine7. I can't reproduce that streak you show above.
Ben, does your unit do that when you display that image on it?
My PJ is a fairly late model Runco DTV-940 (build date of Jan 2001), maybe that has something to do with it?

I'd be checking this..... SUPER EASY to set on the 708/cine7 as in realy realy easy 2 minute job... I push my cine7 pretty hard and have never had anything like that show up.... PS if you need bits i'm getting a complete 708 that i bought for the len's (going on my marquee) and the remote (my cine one died ) so i'll have bits to off load cheap soon...

yes..they're set correctly.
If I recall...the Runco had a few small fixes, and perhaps this was one of them.

P16
The only obvious mod that Runco did was add a 12V output trigger (which I turned into an input trigger to turn it on remotely via my Denon AVR's 12V trigger output).

Oh, and the fancy Runco logo on the case that lights up dimly in the dark.

I'll double check my G2 tonight...and try this test pattern. Perhaps this test pattern doesn't streak? I'll see...
