Dead HVPS?

I turned on my Marquee and let it warm up for about 15 minutes and then shut it down prior to plugging in and running a vacuum (off a different outlet but in the adjacent room). When I turned the PJ back on the LVPS fans run and all the back panel lights are on but zero light output from the tubes. I'm thinking the HVPS has failed. What's the best method to confirm if that is in fact the problem?

It sounds like a hv leak but then again the flyback in the hvps may have failed(I have seen that happen in tvs before)

Do the basic's first, reseat the HDM and VIM.
The HV control comes from HDM and VIM.

The white is normal, not sure what it is, but every HVPS I have, has the same.
A bit dusty, but not a big problem.

Hi,

I'd first check if the voltages from the LVPS are OK. Is any of the LEDs on the LVPS lit? If so, then the problem could be located somewhere else (see document attached).
Which lights on the Control Board are on? If the PJ is running and everything is ok then only the green status LED should be on (except if You're pressing a button on the remote, then the remote LED should be flashing).
On the HVPS I would check the fuse for continuity (even if it's looking good optically). Someone (You?) has replaced resistors. You may check the soldering over there...

I cleaned the contacts on the HDM and re-seated last night and the problem is apparently resolved. While I was at it I ended up pulling out and thoroughly cleaning the FCM, HDM, HVPS and LVPS. I'd never opened my HVPS before so that white crap was alarming but Nash told me the same thing you did, even his Longbows when they were brand new had that white stuff.

Tim replaced the resistors on the HVPS so I'm sure his soldering connections are fine. Even though the problem has been apparently resolved I have another HVPS on the way which I plan to mod. Nash has yelled at me long enough to stock up on spare parts Thumbs Up

Now you have an extra HVPS, now work on the rest of the back up boards. One of each. Very Happy

Marquee guys are so proud that the Marquee had the best MTBF numbers back then, yet it seems every Marquee owner tend to hoard a boatload of spare parts for their machine sooner or later... why? Very Happy

MArquee's downfall is weak module contacts. I'd believe that they're tied with Barco as to the mos reliable sets, but if everyone cleaned the module contacts with Caig fluid before installing, a good 30-40% of failures like this one would be eliminated.

I know!! Since I am converting them to 9 inch I am sure I will screw something up. On the first one I tripled checked all connections to be sure. I did ok there so lets hope when I get time to do the second one i'll be as thorough .

Very Happy

I did clean my contacts last summer when installing the blue tube you sent me. After installing my V1 case on Wed night I pulled out my porter cable and buffed out the top panel and perhaps the vibration caused the HDM to lose contact in the process. Then again it could all be a coincedence..

I own the most reliable projector on the planet. I tried to kill it to justify replacing it. Finally gave up and took it out of service fully functional Laughing
