Well,

This is it mac, its a sony str dh500 5.1 hdmi dealie. I've already fixed 3 of its little brothers, the STR DH100, those are the stereo only (no video at all) units, they were all blown amplifiers.

This DH500 however, is just dead, I mean nothing, no clicks, lights, etc... just a door stop. So, if you feel you can spare the time, then I'mwilling to give it a go.

I have to admit, the power issues these receivers have is getting me more confused than anything, if I could get this figured out I would have a few other receivers fixed as well probably.

(8 out of 30 from the pallet so far! Very Happy )

Well if there are no clicks at all then the first place to look is on the digital board. Look for ic1904. It's a 3 leg, 3.3v regulator. Should have +9v going in and +3.3v coming out.

Same board, locate ic1101. Its the main control ic. Pin 56, check voltage when plugged in. Should be +3.3v. While monitoring that pin, press the power on button. Voltage should drop close to 0 while button is pressed and return to 3.3v when released.

Is that a socketed chip?

Well mac,

That is a surface mount chip, and the 56th pin was hard to get to but I managed to get the lead on the pin, but something incredible happened....

It turned on!!! Neutral

So far its working perfectly.... So now I'm wondering how that happened Neutral

okay, maybe this will help... I must have shorted the 56th pin and it turned the unit on

The input selector knob, power button, and input mode button do not function though mac, they are on one board by themselves connected with a cable to the main front panel board.

So I think the issue is something related to controlling it.

Mac, another update,

The main front panel board that the power button board plugs into has a small crack right where that line goes through, so I think that's the issue, I'll repair it and get back to you

Yeah, shorting that pin would of turned it on. At least you found the problem. What else you got.
