Yeah, nice work but it's not a TORUS; just a curved screen. Is it even possible to produce a rigid TORUS screen? I'm sure with enough money it could be done, but I'd imagine that would be beyond amateur DIY'er.

It is possible. I am not sure how much it would cost. I know that there is a way to curve MDF, but it is beyond the means of DIY. MM, who advised him, says Sintra can be curved, but not into a Torus. I don't know how to describe it, but this guy has one plane curved screen with the corners curved in a second plane.
One thing I would be curious about is focus especially in the transition areas.

Regarding focus, it would probably be ideal to have the HFQ9XX lens for curved screens. That would certainly help a regular horizontal curved screen but having to deal with the second plane is a hole different can of worms. Terry F built TORUS screens for a period of time and he's probably the most knowledgeable individual on this topic.

Yes, the HFQs would help. The problem is this is not a true Torus. My guess is that he will have a problem about 1/3 in from the edge on each side.

Hey Eric,
When you get your stuff together, are you still considering a Torus? I don't have the space in my current theater but if I do in the next house I'd like to try building a 10' wide Torus.
Any idea how exactly MM was bending the Sintra?

No, I am not. If I was going to hang the pj from the ceiling, then I would attempt it.
I have no idea, but I think he was blowing smoke. I think it is PVC based, so it might be possible to heat it.
I think your best bet is a regular screen material with a vacuum box. Draper has pearlescent, Dalite has a pearlescent and a Silver Lite, and Stewart has a couple of 3D screens along with Ultramatte 2.0.
Your only problem is that your setup with a Torus might surpass your buddy Nashs, so that he might get upset and discouraged and throw in the towel and go digital.
