Guys I hope the hv power supply isn't failing but lately I have heard a popping noise twice one power up
Also the set makes a ticking noise while in operation (doesn't matter if there is a image on screen or not)
Any one know what's up with my Ecp?
I have looked and don't any place around the tubes that is black from arcing I haven't pulled the power supply to check it yet

Hello
High voltage is tricky to contain. No doubt some of the rubber insulation, in the HVPS or the tube leads, is beginning to dry out so this is not surprising. Fire up in a darkened room with the cover off, you might see a flash to indicate the spot that is arcing.

The first time it did the popping noise I had a signal already going to the projector and it took awhile for the picture to clear as it was fuzzy right afterwards
This time I just had powered up the projector first and didn't have a signal on yet so I don't know if it made the picture fuzzy or not
It's kinda of a hit and miss thing but the ticking noise can be heard anytime the set is on(signal or not) and never stops

I found out that the ticking noise is tied with the red tube losing focus electronically at each tick(don't notice it till I started shutting off the tubes 2 at a time) so something is up with the high voltage section of the power supply

Update I traced the ticking noise to the anode block emailed curt who told me to remove them and swap them around and see what happens
Will update when I can

Bummer - hope you don't have any arching...
My ECP makes a wonderful series on little snappy cracks as I shut it down...haven't gotten worse, I can't see them in the dark, so I've never worried about it. I think of the sounds as electronic popcorn!
BTW, upto startup do you have 4 relays that click on in about 1/2 sec intervals after a few seconds? My Ehome ECP didn't do this the one time I turned it on, but the Vidikron does. Folks says there is no difference but the case and the badge on the labels...so I think I'm nuts on this.

I can hear the relays click in mine at start up also the series of crackles at shut down is the tubes discharging(mine does both) but the arc I heard wasn't normal(yet it has only done it twice and hasn't done it since)
Maybe my set was wanting to freak me out(I had stuff do that)

It done the popping again(this time the convergence grid popped up on the screen)I had it running this time before it did the popping noise
So far it has made the popping noise five times
First time it did the convergence grid popped up on the screen(few mins after power up)
Second time it made the picture blurry(like out of focus electronically) after a half hour from power up
Third time it did it a hour after power up(the convergnce grid popped up on the screen)
Forth time it did the grid again
Fifth time it did a different grid(not any I seen the set display)

Update after having the top off the set for the past week I finely got to watch and see if the arcing is in the projection head of my Ecp IT ISN'T so is my power supply going out or what here I just inspected it a few days ago and didn't see any arc spots in the power supply area(yet the set hasn't died from this voltage leak odd)
But the arcs are getting more frequent with less of a time gap inbetween was hoping to get the nec fixed before this little machine goes down but it looks like I am going to have to use a tv if both projectors goes down(wouldn't mind if I had my crt samsung fixed but my only working set is a dlp tv(not bad but I will miss the true black so I hope both projectors don't get out of comission)
Anybody got a spare Ecp power supply if curt doesn't have one?
I would hate to be without my big screen I would be very unhappy which I don't want to be

ok after it not makeing the noise for about a week(very odd)
it started again only more frequent
i have had it most of the time just pop the convergence grid up on the screen but not always
one time it did the arcing and the tubes lost focus for a half hour
lately it did and the tubes shut off(new high voltage poer supply installed) while i watching something on the set(thank goodness i wasn't in the middle of a game at the time) so i shut it down and let it sit for a half hour go back to power it up
seconds after powert up SNAP and up pops the convergence grid
so after did a little listening to the set while its running(a technique i use on computer hard drives sometimes) i noticed the anode block was making a crackling noise(its unaudible with the top on the set so i have had the top off)
now i removed the anode wires from the high voltage power supply and tubes to check for carbon bulid up (found none)
so i cleaned the connectors and put them back in the crackling is still there
i have emailed curt and am waiting for his reply
needless to say some of the knowledge i known when i worked on projection tvs is coming back to me really quick(its been a while since i last worked on a crt projection display 8 years at the least if the samsung tv i got lately isn't counted)
also i have a convergence issue with my blue tube
the whole left side won't align with the others and i know it ain't my optical focus or schemfplug adjustment(i think i spelled it right) as i haven't touched them since i set up the projector and the picture is in focus on all three tubes
other then that the set produces the best picture over a digital anyway(which i hope i don't have to use again for a while)

Well now the blue tube aligns better but the hv block has a leak(everything it arcs the tubes shut off)

Prior to this last problem I was going to suggest you remove and inspect the focus board, paying particular attention to the big focus resistor.

I inspected it when I replaced the high voltage power supply its ok
